Grafana Labs is hiring a Staff-level Backend Engineer to build the production services for a context layer management system. You’ll design and ship core backend architecture powering ingestion, storage, retrieval APIs, and agent-facing integrations on a high-autonomy team.

You’ll work through ambiguity, make pragmatic architectural decisions, and grow with a collaborative culture that values curiosity and cross-functional partnership.

Qualifications

• Proven production-grade software experience.
• Familiar with AI technologies and practical implementations.
• Ability to iterate quickly and learn from feedback.
• Ownership mindset with ambiguity handling.
• Strong communication across teams.
• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and GenAI applications.
• Experience in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Familiarity with observability tools to diagnose issues.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship core backend services for context ingestion and retrieval.
• Build multi-tenant SaaS foundation with isolation and quotas.
• Create APIs for agent-facing retrieval and provenance data.
• Collaborate with product/infrastructure to balance speed and reliability.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, and traces for reliability.
• Define architectural direction and deployment patterns for new product area.
• Communicate effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
• Own and scale AI solutions aligned with user workflows.
