Job summary

The Kerry Parents and Friends Association seeks a Relief Nurse for Glebe Lodge, Castleisland. The role includes day, evening, night shifts and weekend work to support adults with intellectual disabilities.

You will deliver holistic, person‑centred care, aligned with NMBI guidelines and our policies, ensuring physical, emotional and social wellbeing. On joining, you’ll work with a team in a rights-based environment, adhering to GDPR and Disability Act requirements while coordinating with families

Qualifications

• Qualified General/Intellectual Disability/Mental Health Nurse.
• Registered in the relevant division of the NMBI.
• Annual registration in the relevant division is required for continuation.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualised nursing care to adults with intellectual, physical, or sensory disabilities.
• Promote independence and empowerment in daily living activities.
• Practice in line with the Code of Professional Conduct and Association policies.
• Ensure compliance with HIQA regulations, Disability Act 2005, Health & Safety Legislation, and GDPR.
• Collaborate with families, caregivers, and external agencies to provide comprehensive support.

Post: Relief Nurse

Contract: Fixed Term

Location: Glebe Lodge, Castleisland

Roster:

This relief nursing role involves a variety of shifts in line with service requirements, including day, evening and night duty, with weekend work as required.

The Role:

We are looking for an energetic and compassionate Nurse to join our dedicated team in providing high quality care for adults with Intellectual Disabilities.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting individuals in achieving independence and improving their quality of life.

As a Nurse in our service, you will play a key role in delivering holistic, person centred care, ensuring the physical, emotional, and social well being of the individuals we support. You will work closely with a team and adhere to professional guidelines set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and the policies and protocols of the Association.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide individualised nursing care to adults with intellectual, physical, or sensory disabilities.
• Promote independence and empowerment in daily living activities.

• Ensure compliance with HIQA regulations, the Disability Act 2005, Health & Safety Legislation, and GDPR.

Essential Criteria:

• Qualified General/Intellectual Disability/Mental Health Nurse.
• Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).
• Please note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division of the register maintained by: Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing Midwifery Board Ireland NMBI)
• IT proficiency to support daily administrative tasks.
• Applicants must have the necessary authorisation to work in Ireland and will be asked to provide supporting documentation during the recruitment process.

Highly desirable criteria:

• Experience of working in a care delivery capacity within a disability service.

• Hold a full driver’s licence, have proven driving experience, and be willing to drive Association vehicles. If using a personal vehicle for work, a roadworthy vehicle with valid business insurance is required, or the applicant must be able to obtain it.
