Location: Tartan Tails Veterinary Hospital – Dartmouth

Position Type: Full-Time

Compensation: From $28/hour + $3000 signing bonus

Start Date: As soon as available

Tartan Tails Veterinary Hospital is seeking a compassionate, skilled Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our growing team in a fast-paced, community-driven veterinary hospital. This is a unique opportunity to practice high-quality veterinary medicine while supporting a spectrum of care approach of care for pets and families across Nova Scotia, as Eastern Canada’s only accessible care hospitals.

What is the Spectrum of Care in Veterinary Medicine?

The Spectrum of Care model is an approach that ensures patients receive high-quality, individualized medicine while recognizing that not all clients can pursue gold-standard or specialty-level care. At Tartan Tails, this means:

  • Presenting multiple treatment pathways, not just one "best" option
  • Balancing diagnostics, treatment, and monitoring plans to match client capacity
  • Upholding kindness, transparency, and non-judgment in every conversation

If you are passionate about veterinary medicine, and compassionate about pet owners and keeping families together, in an environment that is both high-quality and caring, this role will feel meaningful and energizing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, anesthesia, radiology, surgical support, and dental procedures
  • Provide high-volume spay/neuter and shelter medicine support (training provided)
  • Deliver client education grounded in Spectrum of Care principles
  • Support the flow of patients through both the public hospital and shelter clinic
  • Perform laboratory diagnostics (in-house IDEXX, urinalysis, cytology, etc.)
  • Champion low-stress handling and Fear Free techniques
  • Participate in a collaborative, positive, mission-focused team culture
What We’re Looking For
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in good standing
  • A commitment to compassionate, inclusive care
  • Strong communication skills and client-centered approach
  • Comfort adapting care plans based on available resources
  • Interest in shelter medicine and community veterinary initiatives
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, integrated hospital–shelter environment
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation
  • Consistent schedule – no weekends, late evenings or on call
  • Health and dental benefits
  • RRSP matching
  • Paid CE, dues and professional development opportunities
  • A supportive team that prioritizes wellness, mentorship, and growth
  • The ability to make a meaningful impact in both community veterinary care and animal welfare
  • A collaborative environment where RVTs are empowered to use their full scope of skills
Be A Part of Something Bigger

We believe in a Spectrum of Care approach, reducing barriers through thoughtful, standardized operating procedures and fostering a culture of continuous learning and positive change. Working at Tartan Tails means being part of a province-wide effort to help pets stay with the families who love them. If you’re looking for a role that blends clinical practice, surgical experience, community impact, and meaningful connection, we’d love to hear from you.

Tartan Tails Veterinary Hospital is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all qualified applicants, regardless of gender, race, age, sexuality, or disability. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who self-identify as African Nova Scotians, racially visible persons, persons with disabilities, Aboriginal persons and persons of the LGBTQ+ community.
