Job summary

AbbVie in Westport, Ireland, seeks an experienced QC Pharmaceutical Laboratory Manager to lead the testing schedule for raw materials, in-process materials and final products, ensuring GMP compliance.

You will provide strong people leadership, conduct performance reviews, support training, and collaborate with QA, regulatory and manufacturing to meet timelines and maintain audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline.
• Direct people management experience including performance management, development planning, and conflict resolution.
• Strong knowledge of GMP standards and regulatory requirements for laboratory environments.
• Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech regulated laboratories.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Confidence communicating with regulatory inspectors and auditors.
• Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Ability to lead teams and promote a culture of compliance and continuous development.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate, and develop lab team; address performance when required.
• Conduct performance and development meetings in line with policies.
• Participate in recruitment and selection of lab staff.
• Monitor attendance and timekeeping and take corrective action.
• Support training, qualification, and certification of new employees.
• Ensure staffing and resource constraints are effectively managed.
• Promote a culture of compliance and regulatory readiness across activities.
• Provide testing completion dates to support material timelines.
• Monitor KPI data and report on performance.
• Lead Tier 2 meetings and support escalation and issue resolution.
• Represent QC Pharma at meetings and forums as directed by senior management.
• Coordinate review and approval of local and global quality documents.
• Align activities with AbbVie’s strategic objectives across functions.
