Job summary

Tirlán, a world-class food and nutrition co-operative based in Kilkenny, invites applications for a Process Technical Engineer. Located in Ballyragget, the role reports to the Site Process Technical Team Manager and focuses on improving plant performance across cheese, butter, milk proteins and whey powder production.

The candidate will support Operations in KPI delivery, develop MES dashboards, and lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to maximise yield

Qualifications

  • Third level degree in food science, engineering, or processing discipline.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing or pharma-based organisation.
  • Experience monitoring MES KPI data and trending data.
  • Ability to use data insights to drive performance.
  • Proactive troubleshooting and opportunity identification.
  • Strong information handling and IT skills.
  • Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or process improvement experience; Six Sigma desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and implement best practice health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical help in problem solving with the Process Technical team and plant operations.
  • Engage with Quality and Production to prioritise, develop, design and test new or enhanced processes.
  • Analyse production data to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements to maximize yield and minimize waste.
  • Utilise DMAIC tools to characterize, optimise and troubleshoot process equipment and tech performance.
  • Collaborate with Production to plan and execute agreed changes.
  • Develop MES dashboards and reporting tools to streamline workflows and reduce manual data handling.
  • Identify and participate in innovation projects to improve production methods and processes.
  • Monitor MES KPI data and report/trend data for individual processes.
  • Use data insights to suggest interventions to boost performance.
  • Troubleshoot issues and identify opportunities to enhance plant performance and KPI improvement.

Process Technical Engineer

Role Profile

Located in Ballyragget, this role reports to Site Process Technical Team manager, this role is responsible for the optimisation of plant performance through ongoing development and improvements in plant process and automated systems. The Process Engineer will support the Plant Operations teams in the delivery of Plant KPI’s and will aid the plant in any improvement projects. Tirlan Ballyragget consists of the following processes – Cheese, Butter, Milk proteins and whey powder production.

Responsibilities
  • Promote & implement Best Practice Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical help in problem solving day to day issues with the other members of the Process Technical team and with the plant operations team.
  • Engage with stakeholders including Quality and Production teams in the prioritisation, development, design and testing of new or enhanced processes.
  • Analyse production data, identify inefficiencies, and implement process improvements to maximize yield and minimize waste.
  • Demonstrates good working knowledge of DMAIC tools and applies these tools in the characterization, optimization and troubleshooting of process equipment and technology performance.
  • Work with Production team to plan and execute agreed changes
  • Develop MES dashboards and reporting tools to streamline workflows, optimise processes, and reduce reliance on manual data compilation and analysis.
  • Actively identify and participate in activities/projects focusing on innovation and improvement in production methods/processes.
  • Monitor MES KPI data for individual processes including reporting and trending of data.
  • Utilise data insights to recommend interventions to drive performance.
  • Troubleshooting issues and identifying opportunities to enhance plant performance and drive KPI improvement
Requirements
  • Third Level Degree in Food Science, Engineering or Processing Discipline.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a Food Manufacturing or Pharma based organisation
  • Data Monitoring: Skills in monitoring MES KPI data for individual processes, including reporting and trending of data.
  • Data Utilization: Ability to utilize data insights to recommend interventions that drive performance.
  • Troubleshooting: Proactive in troubleshooting issues and identifying opportunities to enhance plant performance and drive KPI improvement.
  • Information Handling: Proficiency in managing and utilizing information effectively.
  • Motivation: The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and self-driven, with exceptional influencing skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive and innovative problem-solving abilities, coupled with strong analytical and IT skills.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Process Improvement, or product development. A Six Sigma qualification is highly desirable.
