Our client is delivering a major industrial water infrastructure project, including the design, construction and commissioning of a Water Treatment Plant (WTP), Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Water Recovery Plant (WRP). The project incorporates a range of advanced treatment technologies to support sustainable water management and resource recovery.

Key technologies include drum screening, dissolved air flotation (DAF) pre-treatment, anaerobic and aerobic biological treatment, membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems, ultrafiltration (UF), high-recovery reverse osmosis (RO), activated carbon filtration and off-gas treatment.

Role Purpose

The Process Engineer will be responsible for the process design of the WTP, WWTP and WRP packages from detailed engineering through to commissioning. The successful candidate will ensure the process design achieves the required treatment performance, translate process requirements into clear engineering deliverables and provide technical support during commissioning, start-up and performance testing activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain process engineering deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, equipment datasheets, instrument datasheets and line lists.
  • Size and specify process equipment and review supplier proposals against design and process requirements.
  • Develop and update functional descriptions and control philosophies in collaboration with the automation team.
  • Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews and Design Qualification (DQ) activities.
  • Respond to technical queries from clients, subcontractors and suppliers while managing process-related changes.
  • Review vendor documentation for packaged process systems including DAF, anaerobic treatment, MBR, UF, RO, activated carbon and chemical dosing systems.
  • Support procurement activities through technical specifications and technical bid evaluations.
  • Develop commissioning and start-up procedures and provide technical support to commissioning teams on site.
  • Assess plant performance during start-up and performance testing, identifying opportunities for optimisation.
  • Ensure process interfaces with existing plant infrastructure are appropriately captured and integrated into the design.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or Master's qualification in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the design and delivery of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Strong understanding of biological treatment processes and membrane technologies including MBR, UF and RO.
  • Experience working on industrial water or wastewater projects within manufacturing, food and beverage, life sciences or related industries is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with HAZOP studies, process calculations and P&ID development.
  • Experience using process simulation tools would be beneficial.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple engineering deliverables simultaneously.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Health, Safety & Quality
