Job summary

WSP is seeking a Primary Design Engineer within its UK & Ireland Energy team to deliver HV and EHV substation designs for 132kV up to 400kV, AIS & GIS. You will work in a multidisciplinary group and contribute to Net Zero projects across the UK & Ireland.

You will review designs, prepare specifications, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards, providing leadership in design deliverables and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) from 132kV to 400kV.
• Knowledge of standards and policies for HV/EHV plant and substations, including earthing and clearances.
• Exposure to substation cable design, protection and control.
• Strong understanding of HS and CDM requirements; able to act as Designer/Principal Designer.
• Preferably working towards/achieved Chartered Engineer status.

Responsibilities

• Produce a comprehensive suite of design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and substation upgrades (132kV–400kV).
• Develop feasibility reports, layouts, GA's, and plant specs for transformers, switchgear, batteries.
• Review supplier and client designs for compliance with current legislation and policies.
• Deliver designs to contract requirements and client satisfaction; attend site meetings.
