Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the project "BIOCHAR", which is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund. We seek to appoint a postdoctoral researcher for a 36-month period, with the objective to support the Primary Investigator and the co-applicants in conducting Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) research. The project aims to develop and demonstrate sustainable biochar solutions by converting agricultural by-products and organic residues from Ireland's Midlands into biochar for applications across agriculture, water treatment and infrastructure. The project explores how biochar can improve soil health, support water treatment, reduce emissions, store carbon and contribute to circular bioeconomy value chains..
The focus of the postdoctoral researcher’s work will be predominantly (but not exclusively) on Task 5, which includes conducting socio-economic and environmental sustainability assessment of biochar value chains, supporting the development of scalable and economically viable solutions for Ireland's Just Transition region. The candidate will be part of the project's multi university, muti industry partner consortium and will have the opportunities to co-lead the development of deliverables and present project findings at international conferences. We are seeking a motivated candidate to strengthen our research group Eco-LOGIC (Economics for Healthy Society and Green Sustainable Communities) that researches within the Food-Environment-Health nexus from a social perspective to build a healthy and sustainable society.
Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
23:30hrs (local Irish time) on Monday 2nd of Nov 2026.
