About the role
Addible is a green chemistry company developing sustainable chemical technologies. We have invented TMO2, a patent-pending new oxidising agent, and our team includes Professor James Clark, one of the founders of green chemistry internationally. We are recruiting a chemist to join our R&D team in Kildare, working on polymer synthesis, materials development and polymer dispersions for industrial clients, alongside our own oxidation chemistry research. You will be one of two researchers in a small, growing laboratory, working closely with our Senior Scientist and the company directors. That means real responsibility for your own experimental programmes and a direct influence on how the company develops. Most of the role is hands-on laboratory work, supported by literature research, data analysis and reporting.
Main duties
- Plan and carry out experimental work in polymer synthesis (including step-growth and polycondensation polymers) and materials development
- Prepare and characterise polymer emulsions and dispersions
- Contribute to the development of our oxidation chemistry
- Design experiments using Design of Experiments (DoE) and interpret the results
- Characterise materials, develop quantitative analytical methods (e.g. GC-MS), interpret data and keep accurate laboratory records and written protocols that others can reproduce
- Prepare regular updates for the directors and technical reports for clients and funded projects
- Work with clients, academic collaborators and external analytical facilities
- Share responsibility for laboratory safety, housekeeping, ordering of consumables and equipment care
- Keep up to date with relevant literature and patents
- Work flexibly across lab, desk based and project tasks as needs arise
Essential
- PhD in chemistry, polymer chemistry, materials science or a related discipline, or a Master's degree with substantial relevant industry experience
- Broad hands-on experience in polymer synthesis and materials chemistry
- Experience with characterisation techniques such as NMR, FTIR, GPC, GC-MS and thermal analysis (DSC/TGA)
- Good laboratory practice and a strong safety mindset
- Clear written and verbal communication, including technical reports for clients
- Ability to work independently, manage your own experimental programme and document work so that others can repeat it
- A full driving licence and own transport. The role involves regular travel to partner facilities, such as university instrument centres, and our site has limited public transport
- An existing right to work in Ireland. We are unable to sponsor or support work permit applications for this role
