GRT Hire Limited in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, requires a Plant Mechanic with 2–3 years of experience. The role covers maintenance, repair and service of plant machinery, with on‑the‑job training provided. You’ll work 39 hours weekly at Ballywilliamroe, reporting to the site team.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical, electrical and hydraulic knowledge, reads drawings and performs diagnostics to minimise downtime and ensure safe plant operation.

Qualifications

2–3 years of Plant Mechanic experience required.
Mechanic certification preferred but not essential.
No minimum academic requirements.
On‑the‑job training provided as required.

Responsibilities

Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and service machinery used in plant activities.
Ensure plant machinery operates safely and efficiently to minimize downtime.
Perform regular maintenance checks on mixers, conveyors, pumps, crushers and batching systems.
Conduct preventative maintenance to extend equipment life and reduce breakdowns.
Lubricate machinery, replace worn parts and keep equipment in good condition.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues and repair promptly.
Carry out scheduled and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
Maintain records of maintenance, repairs and inspections.
Possess knowledge of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems and read schematics.

Job Description

Our client, GRT Hire Limited, based in Co. Carlow, is currently seeking Plant Mechanics for immediate start at their facility in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow.

Qualifications

2-3 years’ Plant Mechanic experience required.
Mechanic Certification preferred but not essential.
There are no minimum academic requirements.
Further training will be provided on-the-job as required.

General Duties / Responsibilities / Experience

To maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and service machinery and equipment used in plant activities
To ensure that all plant machinery is operating efficiently and safely, to minimize downtime, and to support the overall productivity of the plant
To perform regular maintenance checks on plant machinery, including mixers, conveyors, pumps, crushers, and batching systems.
To conduct preventative maintenance tasks to extend the life of equipment and minimize breakdowns.
To lubricate machinery, replace worn parts, and ensure all components are in good working condition.
To identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in plant equipment and -diagnose problems accurately.
To repair or replace faulty parts, ensuring that all machinery is returned to full operational capacity in a timely manner.
To perform both scheduled and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
To ensure all work is conducted in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
To maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed on plant equipment.
Essential knowledge includes mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as the ability to diagnose and fix issues promptly to ensure smooth plant operations
Essential knowledge includes strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge, ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and manuals, and excellent trouble-shooting and problem solving skills
Essential skills include application of relevant health & safety and environmental legislation, performance of system checks and adjustments on machinery, and monitoring of inventory supply for required equipment
Candidates must be competent to assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment or upgrades
Candidates must be competent to monitor stock levels of spare parts, tools, and equipment needed for maintenance and order parts and supplies as needed
A mechanic qualification or certificate is a bonus but is not mandatory
2-3 years’ of proven relevant experience as a Plant Mechanic is required.
