Job summary

SOS Pigs Ltd is seeking Pig Farm Assistants for its pig production sites at Farnans, Crettyard, Co Laois, Ireland (R93DY02). The role covers the full lifecycle of pig husbandry with emphasis on hands-on finisher management.

Key duties include managing finisher accommodation, monitoring growth, grading pigs by weight, optimising feed conversion, supporting breeding, farrowing and weaning, operating feeding systems, and ensuring biosecurity.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of documented experience on a modern commercial pig farm.
• Level 4 qualification (Leaving Certificate/LCVP/LCVPO).
• Good animal husbandry skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow farm procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage finisher accommodation, monitor daily growth rates, grade finisher pigs by weight, and optimise feed conversion efficiency.
• Support breeding, farrowing, and weaning operations across the wider unit.
• Operate, monitor, and adjust feeding systems in accordance with production schedules.
• Inspect livestock daily to detect illness or injury, record treatments, and administer vaccinations.
• Follow strict farm biosecurity protocols and maintain clean housing environments.

SOS Pigs Ltd is seeking to employ Pig Farm Assistants for its pig production sites at Farnans, Crettyard, Co Laois, R93DY02.The role involves the full lifecycle of pig husbandry, from breeding through to finishing, with a particular focus on proven, hands‑on experience in managing the finishing stages.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage finisher accommodation, monitor daily growth rates, grade finisher pigs by weight, and optimise feed conversion efficiency.Support breeding, farrowing, and weaning operations as required across the wider unit.Operate, monitor, and adjust automated or manual feeding and watering systems in accordance with precise farm production schedules.Inspect livestock daily to detect early signs of illness or injury, record medical treatments, and administer vaccinations under direction.Follow strict farm biosecurity protocols, including power‑washing, disinfecting pens, and maintaining clean and hygienic housing environments.Candidate Requirements and ExperienceAt least 2 years of documented experience working on a modern, commercial pig farm.Demonstrated proficiency and hands‑on experience in finisher management.Ability to work as part of a team and follow farm production and biosecurity procedures.Good animal husbandry skills and attention to detail.Remuneration €36,605 per annum, based on a standard 39-hour working week.
