Job summary

Vision Ireland is seeking a part-time occupational therapy professional to provide a high-quality service to adults experiencing vision loss at Penrose Wharf, Cork. You will assess needs, deliver tailored interventions, and work with referrers, professionals, and families to maximise independence.

You will manage a caseload, document outcomes, and contribute to service development while maintaining professional standards and safeguarding. Garda vetting may be required.

Qualifications

• Third level qualification in occupational therapy or a relevant health/social science.
• Willingness and ability to travel with daily duties.
• Good written and spoken English for effective communication.
• Right to work and live in Ireland.
• Experience in assessments and individualised intervention.
• Knowledge of vision loss and supporting independence.
• Caseload management, organisation and record keeping.
• Communication, empathy and family-centred practice.
• Multi-disciplinary/stakeholder engagement.
• Safeguarding, professional standards and commitment to continuous development.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with referrers and manage intake of referrals according to Vision Ireland protocols.
• Provide in-depth functional assessment at baseline and ongoing.
• Independently manage a caseload of adults using a tiered intervention approach.
• Advise and deliver intervention programmes including independent living, residual vision maximisation, compensatory skills, communication and travel skills.
• Offer emotional support and refer on for further support when needed.
• Provide information on sight loss to individuals, families, and the public.
• Work in partnership with individuals and other professionals to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Engage with government, statutory and voluntary bodies to promote needs of people with vision impairment.
• Develop knowledge and contribute to team learning.
• Contribute to policy, standards, and service evaluation.
