Job summary

Croghan Organic Gardens Excel CLG invites applications for a Horticultural Worker to assist with the maintenance and development of our community gardens located in Croghan and Elphin, Co. Roscommon.

The ideal candidate has a good work ethic, can work outdoors year-round, and can operate both independently and as part of a team, with a basic understanding of plant care. Experience is ideal but not required; training is available in a not-for-profit setting funded by Dept.

Qualifications

• English level required: B1-Intermediate.
• Ability to provide customer service and perform manual tasks is desirable.
• Teamwork and initiative to work independently are valued.

Responsibilities

• Sow, plant, transplant, prune, harvest and water plants.
• Weeding and all maintenance tasks for gardens.
• Apply fertilizers and manage compost beds as needed.

Job Description

Horticultural WorkerWe are looking for a dedicated Horticulture Worker to assist with the maintenance and development of our community gardens located in Croghan and Elphin Co. Roscommon.Our ideal candidate has a good work ethic and willingness to learn, can work outdoors year round, has the ability to work individually and as part of a team, is familiar with the different types of plants, has a good understanding of plant diseases, pests, and follows the best practices for plant care and maintenance.

Responsibilities:

• Sow, plant, transplant, prune, harvest and water plants.
• Weeding and all other activities related to maintenance and cultivation of plants.
• Apply fertilizers to plants as needed and compost/manure beds.
• Maintain the cleanliness of gardens, polytunnels, landscapes and facilities.
• Operate and maintain garden tools and machinery.
• Monitor and report any plant diseases or pests.
• Delivery of produce for sale and sale of produce to customers on site.
• Ensure the aesthetic appeal of gardens and landscapes.
• Adhering to safety guidelines and procedures.
• Keeping gardening records.

Horticultural qualification and experience is ideal but not a requirement.
