Mater Private Network in Ireland is seeking a compassionate Ophthalmic Nurse to join our Ophthalmology team. You will deliver high-quality nursing care for patients undergoing assessment, treatment, and surgical procedures within a specialist eye service.

  • Assist with ophthalmic examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and minor procedures.
  • Prepare and support patients before, during, and after ophthalmic interventions.
  • Monitor patient progress and respond appropriately to changing clinical needs.
  • Provide patient education and advice regarding procedures, treatments, medications, and post-operative care.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with ophthalmologists, nursing colleagues, allied health professionals, and administrative teams.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive patient experience.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and all relevant health and safety standards.

Job description

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and patient-focused Ophthalmic Nurse to join our Ophthalmology team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist service providing high-quality care to patients undergoing ophthalmic assessment, treatment, and surgical procedures.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care while supporting patients throughout their ophthalmology journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care in accordance with professional standards and best practice.
  • Assist with ophthalmic examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and minor procedures.
  • Prepare and support patients before, during, and after ophthalmic interventions.

Essential Criteria
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current registration on the General Division of the Register of Nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Minimum of 1 year post-registration clinical experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centred care.
  • This is specifically for the Ophthalmology Department which is predominantly a Monday to Friday service. There are no night shifts. The role will include rotating through the whole of the Eye Department which comprises of sections for Eye scans, Outpatient Clinic, Eye Injection Service and Minor Laser Eye Surgery.
Desirable Criteria
  • Previous experience in Ophthalmology, Day Surgery, Theatre, Outpatient Services, or Ambulatory Care.
  • Completion of ophthalmology-related education or training.
  • Experience supporting patients undergoing ophthalmic procedures and treatments.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic medications, diagnostics, and clinical pathways.
