Operations Manager Cold Storage Cork
The Operations Manager will oversee the day-to-day running of cold storage and logistics operations, ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective handling of temperature-controlled goods. The role requires strong leadership, operational excellence, and an ability to drive improvements in service levels, safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop cold store warehouse and logistics teams to deliver operational targets.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, food safety, HACCP, and regulatory standards across all cold storage facilities.
- Oversee inbound and outbound goods flow, storage, order picking, dispatch, and transport coordination.
- Optimize warehouse capacity, inventory management, and temperature integrity at all times.
- Implement KPIs and performance monitoring to improve service levels, reduce waste, and control costs.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring service delivery meets customer expectations.
- Manage scheduling, staffing, and training to ensure adequate resourcing across shifts.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning related to warehouse and logistics operations.
- Collaborate with senior management to deliver business growth and expansion strategies.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and people management skills with experience in unionized and/or shift-based environments.
- Excellent knowledge of cold storage operations, supply chain management, and logistics best practices.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and control operational costs.
- Effective communicator with strong stakeholder management skills.
- High level of problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making ability.
- Comfortable with warehouse management systems (WMS), transport management systems (TMS), and related technology.
- Strong focus on compliance, health & safety, and quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience (5+ years) in warehouse/logistics management, preferably in cold store or temperature-controlled supply chains.
- Strong background in managing large teams across multiple shifts.
- Experience with inventory control, distribution planning, and logistics coordination.
- Knowledge of HACCP, BRC, ISO, or other relevant compliance standards.
- Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field (preferred but not essential).
- Professional certifications in supply chain or logistics (e.g., CILT, APICS) advantageous.
