Job summary

Accenture UK & Ireland is seeking an Operational Technology Consultant to bring specialist OT expertise (SCADA, telemetry, and industrial control) to client projects in the utilities sector. Job description

The Opportunity for You? As an Operational Technology Consultant, you will bring specialist knowledge of Operational Technology environments, SCADA systems, telemetry devices, and industrial control environments to Operational Technology team. Working alongside our clients, engineers and external partners, you will lead and support a range of projects from technology assessment, asset modernisation and procurement through to full delivery of OT solutions across our Utilities clients.

Key Responsibilities Will Include:

• Provide consultancy on SCADA systems, telemetry devices, and wider OT architecture within the utilities sector.
• Lead and support technology delivery projects across the operational network, from initial scoping and business case development through to implementation and handover.
• Engage with SCADA and telemetry hardware and software vendors to evaluate market solutions, support procurement activities, and inform technology selection decisions.
• Advise on industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices relevant to OT environments in the water sector.
• Translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership and operational teams.
• Support the identification and assessment of AI and data-driven solutions to improve network monitoring, predictive maintenance, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, IT, and engineering teams to ensure OT projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
• Monitor developments in adjacent sectors (energy, transport, manufacturing) and bring relevant innovation and lessons learned back to our clients.
• Contribute to shaping longer-term OT and digital strategy for clients, working with senior stakeholders to build internal capability over time.

Required Skills:

• Demonstrable engineering background (electrical, electronic, control systems, or similar discipline), with hands-on experience in OT environments.
• Strong working knowledge of SCADA systems - including architecture, RTUs, PLCs, HMI platforms, and communications protocols (e.g. DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870).
• Experience with telemetry devices and networks, including their role in monitoring and controlling distributed assets across a wide geographic area.
• Proven project delivery experience in a consulting, contracting, or industry role - with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with the water sector or comparable regulated utility environment (energy, gas, etc), including an understanding of the operational and regulatory context.
• Understanding of the challenges associated with aging OT infrastructure, including obsolescence, cybersecurity risks, and vendor support lifecycle.
• Awareness of the leading SCADA and telemetry technology providers in the market and the competitive landscape for OT solutions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organisation.

Desirable Skills:

• Direct experience working with a enterprise telemetry system or SCADA platforms used in the water industry (e.g. Ovarro TBox, Schneider Electric, Rockwell, Siemens, or similar).
• Experience or strong interest in the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning across OT operational landscape
• Familiarity with IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) architectures and the integration of OT data into enterprise systems.
• Understanding of OT cybersecurity principles and frameworks (e.g. IEC 62443, NCSC CAF) and their application in critical national infrastructure.
• Experience working with or alongside water network operations teams, including understanding of water treatment, distribution, and wastewater processes.
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks such as Ofwat requirements, DWI standards, or environmental compliance obligations.
• Formal project management or delivery qualification (e.g. Prince2, APM, PMP, or Agile-based approaches).
