Job summary

Direct Entry – Hull Artificer (Carpenter) is based onsite at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork. You will learn to manage, maintain, and crew the ship to ensure its operational readiness and seaworthiness at sea.

The role requires Irish citizenship or eligibility, medical and security clearance, and age 18–39. Qualifications include HETAC Level 7 Craft Technology (Wood) with business, plus National Craft Certificates in Carpentry and Shipwright.

Responsibilities

• Learn to manage, maintain, and crew the ship while ensuring its operational readiness.
• Be trained to take on the responsibilities of a Hull Artificer at sea, contributing to safety and maintenance of the fleet.
• Responsible for maintenance, repair, and structural integrity of the vessel's hull, fittings, and associated systems.
• Play a key role in ensuring ships remain seaworthy and structurally sound for optimal operational effectiveness under all conditions.
• Participate in emergency response, including firefighting and damage control duties.

Requirements:

• Citizenship: Irish citizen or legally entitled to work in Ireland
• Character & Fitness: Must meet medical, physical, and security clearance standards
• Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 39 years of age on the date of application

Qualifications (or equivalent):

• HETAC Level 7 Bachelor of Science in Craft Technology (Wood) with business

Recruitment Process:

Includes a fitness test, competency-based interview, medical exam, and Garda vetting

Location: All assessments conducted at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork

Salary & Benefits:

• Basic Salary: €49,543 with yearly increments
• Naval Service Allowance: Approx. €20,570
• Overseas Service Allowance: Starting at €15,000 per annum, in addition to your salary
