Job summary

ICON plc in Dublin, Ireland, is seeking a Medical Technologist II to join the Central Laboratory and Flow Cytometry Department, ensuring testing of clinical trial samples and reporting results in line with quality standards and SOPs.

You will work with a diverse team, apply strong interpersonal and communication skills, and contribute to process improvements, maintaining accurate documentation and adherence to GLP/GCP expectations in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or Life Sciences.
  • 1+ years' experience in a Flow cytometry laboratory.
  • Experience with CTC analysis, PBMC isolation and DNA extraction is desirable but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Test clinical trial samples for flow cytometry assays.
  • Adhere to ICON's Quality Control SOPs and document results accurately.
  • Perform equipment checks, maintenance, and QC per guidelines.
  • Review test requests for errors and ensure patient identification accuracy.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and maintain assay tracking records.
  • Support process improvements and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Our Medical Technologist will ensure the Central Laboratory, Flow Cytometry Department is meeting the highest quality standards. They will work to process, analyse and report results of clinical trial patient samples in our Flow Cytometry Laboratories.

Overview of the Role
  • Experienced Flow Cytometry Operator will test clinical trial samples for flow cytometry assays.

  • Operate equipment carefully and according to procedures; maintain laboratory automation equipment per established operating procedures.
  • Perform necessary equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality control on equipment per laboratory guidelines, as assigned.
  • Assure equipment and instruments meet performance standards.
  • Maintain QC related documents.
  • Assure the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory's Quality Control Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain complete documentation for assay tracking and results for review/reporting.
  • Participate in the Proficiency Testing Program as assigned.
  • Complete the performance of proficiency testing in assigned laboratory sections.
  • Review all test requests thoroughly for errors, omissions, clarity, and potential problems.
  • Verify patient identification at all steps of every procedure and maintain complete accuracy.
  • Follow unidirectional flow of specimen handling to avoid contamination.
  • Notify supervisor of discrepancies and records corrective action taken.
  • Help maintain commonly used equipment and resolve minor equipment problems. Troubleshoot instrument related issues as they occur.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and efficiently are essential.
  • Ability to multitask, along with an orientation toward teamwork and leadership.
  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
To be successful in the role, you will ideally have
  • A bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or equivalent Life Sciences.
  • 1+ years' experience working in a Flow cytometry laboratory.
