Mechanical Project Engineer

Turning design intent into buildable, coordinated and well-documented mechanical installations.

Role Overview

The Mechanical Project Engineer manages mechanical systems design coordination and on-site execution for Sensori's mechanical installations. The role translates design intent into installation-ready solutions, leads BIM coordination for the mechanical scope, manages stakeholder interfaces and technical queries, and holds cost and resource responsibility for the package. It requires an engineer who can move comfortably between model coordination, procurement support and daily site leadership to deliver safely from mobilisation through handover. This position comes with a potential opportunity to support projects within Ireland.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Liaise with client design teams, main contractors, suppliers and subcontractors to resolve technical issues and maintain delivery momentum.
  • Review IFC drawings and specifications to understand scope fully; drive the coordination process so BIM outputs become installation-ready drawings, fabrication details and isometrics.
  • Raise, track and close requests for information and technical queries to remove blockers and protect the programme.
  • Work with the Project Manager and EHS lead to establish, maintain and close the project safety file and ensure safe working practices on site.
  • Set up and maintain site QA records with the QA lead and ensure installations meet the project QA plan.
  • Coordinate engineering activity with the Project Manager, consulting engineers and client milestones to prevent engineering delay affecting the critical path.
  • Manage cost and resource elements for the package, including Sensori mechanical teams, subcontractors, materials, plant, variations and valuations; issue weekly cost reports.
  • Oversee daily site operations, resolve technical issues and ensure efficient use of labour and plant; ensure Sensori policies are flowed down to suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Track subcontractor progress and manpower; hold minuted weekly coordination meetings; operate the in-progress snagging system.
  • Produce internal and external weekly progress reports (percent complete by WBS, risks, KPIs); manage material take-offs and the engineering materials report; schedule deliveries to match the programme.
  • Prepare subcontract and supplier tender packages with the quantity surveyor and assess returns for technical compliance.
  • Evaluate and promote engineering practices that shorten delivery, improve quality or reduce cost; mentor junior engineers.
  • Deliver final account, O&M manuals, punch lists, safety and QA files and final documentation; maintain a weekly photographic diary.
Selection criteria / person specification
  • Trade qualification or third-level degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Competent with Revit, AutoCAD or equivalent and able to produce fabrication details and isometrics.
  • Familiar with planning software (Primavera, MS Project or equivalent) and project reporting systems.
  • Experience with cost control, variations and valuations.

  • Excellent negotiation, problem-solving and decision-making skills; able to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage workload to deadlines.
