Job summary

Next Generation is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Carlow, Ireland for an 11-month contract. The role focuses on electrical maintenance, instrumentation, and automation within a highly regulated cGMP environment.

You will work with critical production equipment, ensuring reliability and compliant operations. Ideal candidates have relevant electrical/Instrumentation qualifications and hands-on maintenance experience in industrial settings, with exposure to PLC/SCADA/HMI systems.

Qualifications

• Electrical maintenance and instrumentation experience in industrial settings.
• Experience with preventative and corrective maintenance.
• Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
• Exposure to PLC/SCADA/HMI systems is desirable.
• Previous experience in regulated manufacturing environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical and instrumentation maintenance including servicing and repairs.
• Calibrate and troubleshoot process instrumentation.
• Support installations, commissioning, and qualification activities.
• Diagnose faults using electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
• Maintain accurate work orders, calibration records, and documentation.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Production to keep operations safe, compliant.

Maintenance Technician

We're seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing organisation in Carlow, Ireland. This is an opportunity to work with critical production equipment, solve technical challenges, and strengthen your expertise in electrical maintenance, instrumentation, and automation within a highly regulated cGMP environment.

This 11-month contract offers valuable experience in a technically demanding manufacturing environment, with potential for extension depending on business requirements. You'll play an important role in maintaining equipment reliability, supporting production performance, and ensuring safe, compliant operations.

What you'll achieve (and why it matters)

• Carry out electrical and instrumentation maintenance, including preventative servicing, fault-finding, and breakdown repairs.
• Calibrate and troubleshoot process instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, and control valves.
• Support equipment installations, modifications, commissioning, and qualification activities.
• Diagnose equipment faults using electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
• Investigate recurring failures and contribute to root cause analysis and equipment reliability improvements.
• Maintain accurate work orders, calibration records, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to keep operations safe, efficient, and cGMP-compliant.

Your edge (desired, not required)

• A relevant qualification, apprenticeship, or trade background in electrical engineering, instrumentation, automation, or mechatronics.
• Hands‑on experience in electrical maintenance, industrial equipment troubleshooting, and repairs.
• Experience with preventative and corrective maintenance.
• A Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) trade qualification would be advantageous.
• Calibration experience and exposure to PLC, SCADA, HMI, or other industrial control systems.
• Previous experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, food, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Pharmaceutical experience is beneficial, but candidates with relevant industrial maintenance backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
