Job summary

Myn invites a Locum GP to provide general medical services to our patient panel, covering routine surgeries, home visits where applicable, and same-day/urgent appointments as required.

This role offers flexible, well-supported locum work with minimal administrative burden outside clinical duties. You will work within Irish guidelines, maintain records in Socrates/ Helix Health, and liaise with practice staff for safe handover.

Qualifications

• MB BCh BAO or equivalent recognised by the Irish Medical Council.
• Current registration on the General or Specialist Division (General Practice) of the Irish Medical Council.
• ICGP membership or eligibility for GP vocational training completion.
• Current medical indemnity cover appropriate to locum general practice in Ireland.
• Up-to-date CPR/BLS certification.
• Evidence of up-to-date CPD in line with Medical Council requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide general practice consultations across booked surgeries and urgent care.
• Conduct home visits where clinically required and agreed.
• Prescribe medications per practice formulary and guidelines.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and refer as needed.
• Maintain accurate clinical records in Socrates / Helix Health.

Role Overview

The Locum GP will provide general medical services to the practice's patient panel, covering routine surgeries, home visits (where applicable), and same-day/urgent appointments as required. This role suits a GP seeking flexible, well-supported locum work with minimal administrative burden outside of clinical duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide general practice consultations across booked surgeries, including acute, chronic disease management, and preventative care appointments.
• Conduct home visits where clinically required and agreed as part of the locum arrangement.
• Prescribe medications in line with practice formulary and national prescribing guidelines.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, referring on to secondary care or allied specialists as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in the practice's chosen software (e.g. Socrates, Helix Health).
• Ensure continuity of care by liaising with practice GPs and administrative staff regarding follow-up and handover.
• Work within the practice's clinical governance, safeguarding, and infection control protocols.
• Maintain professional indemnity and CPD requirements throughout the locum engagement.

Essential Qualifications & Registration

• Primary medical qualification (MB BCh BAO or equivalent) recognised by the Irish Medical Council.
• Current registration on the General Division or Specialist Division (General Practice) of the Irish Medical Council register.
• Membership of, or eligibility for, the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP), or equivalent GP vocational training completion.
• Current medical indemnity cover appropriate to locum general practice in Ireland (e.g. Medisec, MPS, MDU).
• Up-to-date CPR/BLS certification.
• Evidence of up-to-date CPD in line with Medical Council requirements.

Desirable Criteria

• Prior locum experience within Irish general practice.
• Familiarity with GMS scheme administration and common Irish practice software (Socrates, Helix Health, Health One).
• Experience with minor surgery, women's health, or chronic disease clinics (an advantage but not essential).
• Full driving licence and own transport, where home visits are part of the role.

• Strong clinical judgement and ability to work autonomously with minimal induction time.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build quick rapport with an unfamiliar patient panel.
• Flexible and adaptable, comfortable adjusting to different practice systems and workflows.
• Reliable and punctual, with clear availability communicated in advance.
• Collaborative approach, willing to liaise with practice staff to ensure safe patient handover.
