Job summary

IPS, a Berkshire Hathaway company, seeks a Lead Building Services Engineer to join our Cork team and lead HVAC, building services, and utility systems on regional life sciences projects. The role emphasizes independent project work, technical leadership, and coordination across multiple concurrent tasks.

You will collaborate with Project Managers and Directors of Building Services, writing scopes of work, reviewing bids, and ensuring design integrity while meeting client needs.

Qualifications

• Responsible for HVAC, black utilities, public health services, BMS and fire protection systems.
• Experiences coordinating scope, budget and staffing with project managers.
• Writes scope of work documents for mechanical building services designs.

Responsibilities

• Oversees or contributes as technical expert on design of building services.
• Reviews budgets and construction documentation, and supports client meetings.
• Coordinates project documents with clients and external design professionals.
• Assists in development of design standards and staff mentoring.

We are looking for a talented Lead Building Services Engineer to join our established team based at our office located in Cork. This position will primarily work on local projects within the region.

In this role, you'll work independently on various projects as assigned by a Project Manager or Director of Building Services. You may oversee the entire design process or assist as a technical expert on a specialized design. You may also work on several concurrent projects, and some management responsibility is expected.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Responsible for all HVAC, black utilities, public health services, building management systems, environmental monitoring systems, and fire protection systems.
• Assesses the requirements of a project, breaks the project into tasks, and works with Project Managers / Director of Building Services to determine scope of work, budget, and staffing.
• Writes scope of work documents for Mechanical Building Services design based on preliminary review meetings with the client.
• Prepares engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyzes the operation of existing systems.
• Works with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes/regulations is required.
• Assigns and reviews work of project design team.
• Checks progress of work and alerts the Project Manager of scope changes or the need for additional services.
• Reviews contractor technical bids and applications for payments.
• Coordinates all aspects of project document completion within the company and externally with clients and other design professionals.
• Prepares or reviews construction budgets based on experience and scope of project.
• Promotes use of and participates in development of company design and production standards.
• Assists in the education and development of design staff and acts as a resource for design questions.
• Special projects as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of clean utility systems.
