Tyndall National Institute in Cork is seeking an IT Analyst to provide support across IT and Digital Delivery, aligning with the Institute's strategic objectives and research-focused environment.

Reporting to the Head of IT and Digital Transformation, you will assist in endpoint migration to Intune, manage ticketing, and collaborate with IT Security for gap analyses and certifications. The role offers blended working and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• A degree in a relevant discipline.
• 5+ years’ experience in an equivalent IT role.
• In-depth knowledge of Windows client operating systems.
• Experience with IT Service Delivery and/or Management.
• Knowledge of Intune enrolled devices and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide client and application support to staff via remote services and deskside support.
• Assist in migration of endpoints to a cloud managed solution (Intune).
• Log or receive calls and manage tickets to resolution or escalation.
• Escalate unresolved issues to subject matter experts and track progress.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues and seek automated solutions.

• Document changes of processes for end users.

Tyndall National Institute is an international leader in semiconductors, photonics and deep-tech research and innovation. As a leading collaborative European research institute, Tyndall is a key actor and hosting partner in the delivery of the ‘Chips for Europe Initiative’ (EU Chips Act).

The Institute’s key objective is to see frontier research activities having a significant impact on economic development and societal challenges in Ireland, Europe and beyond. Central to Tyndall’s mission is delivering economic impact through research excellence in partnership with industry and academia. With an annual turnover of more than €50m, the Institute has a community of over 600 researchers, engineers, support staff, postgraduate students, interns and industry researchers-in-residence.

With significant committed Irish government support, Tyndall will grow to be 1,000 people by 2030, with approximately 750 researchers, including 250 PhD students. A new 17,000 m2 research building is under development adjacent to the Cork headquarters and there are developing plans to expand Tyndall’s existing Dublin research labs and to establish other research sites within Ireland.

Tyndall’s expansion is also supported by recent national and EU funding wins for significant (M€10’s) additional research equipment across a range of areas such as semiconductor processing, microscopy, quantum technologies, heterogeneous integration, ultra-high speed optical communications and RF through THz characterisation.

About the Role
Reporting to the Head of IT and Digital transformation, the purpose of the role will be to provide support for critical service areas across IT and Digital Delivery. This role will contribute directly to Tyndall’s strategic objectives, particularly in the areas of infrastructure supporting research.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide client and application support to staff in Tyndall through remote services with some levels of deskside support where appropriate

• Assisting in migration of endpoints to a cloud managed solution (Intune)

• Log or receive calls logged to the team on the relevant ticket management system for IT and acting on these to bring to a resolution or escalate where appropriate

• Escalate unresolved issues as necessary to other relevant subject matter experts (within UCCIT Services) and follow up on call progression

• Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, working to establish if there are automated solutions

• Managing IT projects end to end

• Documenting changes of processes for end users

• Liaising with UCC’s IT Security Team to provide gap analysis for Tyndall and compliance for certification bodies

• Undertake training when required and develop IT skills and expertise

• Participate and support in Education and Public Engagement activities, as required.
• Ensure compliance with Tyndall’s Quality Management Systems, Health and Safety standards, and other regulations.

• Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post

Essential Criteria

• A degree in a relevant discipline.

• At least 5 years’ experience of working in an equivalent role. In depth knowledge of Windows client operating systems.

• Previous relevant hardware and software experience.

• Experience with one or more of the following:

  • IT Service Delivery and/or Management
  • Automation platforms such as Microsoft Power Automate
  • Datacentre & Cloud Platform Operations
  • Knowledge of the management of Intune enrolled devices

• Ability to work well on your own initiative and to prioritise appropriately.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

• Be technically competent with a good appreciation of personal computing and associated technologies.

• Excellent customer service, communication, and prioritisation skills

Desirable Criteria

• A good knowledge and understanding of the current IT landscape in higher education and research.

• Understanding of cloud management of end point devices with Intune and EntraID.

• Previous experience working in large research or higher education sectors.

• IT Helpdesk experience or experience in a customer service-oriented role would be favourable

• Experience in an academic environment (particularly scientific/medical) would be an advantage

• Experience in the operations of M365 applications including Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive

• Experience in supporting AI tools in Education or Research

Appointment may be made on theGradeVSalary Scale€51,307 – €62,926 per annum. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
