Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Industrial Placement student for its Bridges team in Ireland. You will gain hands-on experience across technical and project activities, including CAD drawings, data analysis, site visits, and collaboration with engineers across disciplines.

Currently pursuing a Civil or Structural Engineering degree with a 2:1 or higher, you will contribute to feasibility, design and construction stage tasks while developing practical skills in a global infrastructure firm.

Responsibilities

• Produce CAD drawings and support structural design tasks.
• Assist with project administration, record-keeping and documentation.

• Contribute to problem-solving and developing design solutions under supervision.
• Participate in site visits to gather information or observe conditions.
• Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Apply health and safety practices during site and office-based tasks, and consider sustainability.

Job description

Our Bridges & Structures team is at the forefront of delivering complex and impactful infrastructure projects, supporting clients locally, nationally, and internationally. The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary, detailed and construction stage design support on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of major multi-disciplinary projects. Our current portfolio of work comprises a diverse mix of local and national highway schemes, active travel schemes, greenway and rail projects. As an Industrial Placement student in our Bridges team, you will gain hands‑on experience across a variety of technical and project activities, such as:

• Producing CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drawings and supporting structural design tasks.
• Assisting with project administration, record-keeping, and documentation.
• Reviewing and analysing technical data to inform engineering decisions.
• Contributing to problem-solving and developing design solutions under supervision.
• Participating in site visits to gather information or observe conditions.
• Collaborating with engineers and other professionals across AECOM disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Applying health and safety practices during site and office-based tasks, while considering sustainability principles.

Currently pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with an expected 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or higher.

• Strong interest in bridge structures and structural engineering, with a passion for developing a career in this field.
• Some prior exposure to an engineering environment (e.g., placement, shadowing, or relevant coursework) is desirable.
• Interest in software-based engineering and design (e.g., CAD, 3D modelling).
• Creative, practical, adaptable, and enthusiastic mindset.
• Strong attention to detail, methodical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with CAD software is an advantage but not essential.
• Willingness to travel for project-related site visits as required.
