Job summary

Flex in Dundalk, Ireland seeks a Hyperscale Mechanical Engineer to help design switchboards and related products for production. You will work under Head of Engineering, gaining broad exposure across mechanical and electrical disciplines with mentoring.

The role emphasizes CAD design, collaboration with production and project teams, occasional client site surveys, and a path toward supporting Axiom spin-off.

Qualifications

• 3D mechanical design of electrical equipment such as power distribution or switchgear.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) at 3rd level.
• Experience in mechanical design in a commercial environment.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software, preferably Inventor & Vault.
• Sheet metal design experience preferable.
• Ability to read schematics.
• Able to work with other engineering disciplines and independently when needed.
• Strong numeracy and literacy with attention to detail.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Fluent English and eligible to work in Ireland (EU).

Responsibilities

• Ensure drawings issued to shop floor are controlled and clear.
• Assist Production/Test to resolve design problems.
• Assist with Shop Floor operations, Site operations and Client Witness Testing as required.

• Liaise with Project Managers and Mechanical Design Manager on standard drawings library.
• Travel to client sites to carry out surveys.

Job Summary

Flex intends to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment into a new, independent publicly traded company, Axiom, with the spin planned for Q1 2027. If the intended spin occurs, this role will support Axiom, a company focused on critical digital infrastructure and delivering end-to-end power and thermal management solutions for AI data centers and other mission‑critical applications.

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a _ Hyperscale Mechanical Engineer _ located in _ Dundalk, Ireland _ .

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this role will be gaining a wealth of experience in a wide range of electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines and beyond with structured mentoring from more experienced team members. The successful candidate will work across multiple disciplines to get a full overview of the life cycle of the product along with the commercial acumen to compliment the technical aspects of the role.

What a typical day looks like:

• Creating 3D mechanical designs of switchboards & associated products ready for production / fabrication purposes
• Ensuring drawings issued to the shop floor are controlled, accurate and easy to follow
• Providing assistance to Production/Test to resolve problems with new & existing product designs
• Assisting with Shop Floor operations, Site operations and Client Witness Testing as required
• Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering
• Liaising with Project Managers and the Mechanical Design Manager on the development of the library of standard drawings
• Travelling to client sites on occasion to carry out surveys

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

• Previous experience of mechanical design of electrical equipment such as power distribution, packaged substations or switchgear would be considered advantageous, as would the knowledge & understanding of other electrical systems
• 3rd level degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• Experience in a mechanical design role in a commercial environment
• Proficient in the use of 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor & Vault
• Experience with sheet metal design would be preferable
• Competence to read schematics would be beneficial
• Ability to interact with other engineering disciplines and work as part of a team or independently as required
• Good level of numeracy & literacy skills, as well as accuracy & attention to detail
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Fluent English language skills and eligible to work in Ireland (EU)
