Job summary

St. Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin is seeking a Hospital Sterile Services Department Supervisor within the HSSD to lead daily operations, ensure quality standards, and maintain documentation.

You will organize workload, assign tasks, supervise the team, uphold health and safety policies, conduct routine tests, and participate in policy development. The role requires weekend/overtime flexibility and deputising for the manager to support an efficient, professional service.

Responsibilities

  • Daily supervision of the sterile services team to ensure that the defined quality standards are maintained correctly documented and periodically reviewed.
  • Organisation of the workload and assignment of tasks to ensure that service levels are maintained so that medical devices / packs are produced on time and to the agreed standard.
  • As a working supervisor, you are required to provide assistance to sterile services team at all times Be familiar with and observe all Hospital and Departmental policies in relation to Health and Safety / Infection Control / Lifting and Handling and Fire Policy in order to demonstrate the knowledge necessary to provide a safe working environment for self and others
  • Be compliant to local departmental policy, systems and arrangements e.g roster/shifts
  • Be accountable for the quality of the service provided, including customer service and technical aspects
  • Ensure that routine tests and preventative maintenance is carried out on all equipment
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of the relevant legislation and standards pertinent to the operation of a sterile services department
  • Undertake and document quality control and quality assurance checks within the department
  • Maintain at all times, strict confidentiality in relation to patients, staff and the hospital in general
  • Participate in the implementation and use of information technology within the department
  • Flexibility with regard to week end / overtime work and willingness to respond to call out in emergencies will be required e.g sick leave
  • Contribute to the development of and implementation of operational policies, protocols and guidelines to ensure optimum utilisation of resources and systematic audit of such usage.
  • Investigate and take appropriate action in accordance with the hospital policy in relation to complaints, accidents and incidents.
  • Assist the department manager in training and continuous education of staff including online decontamination training
  • Be committed to developing own knowledge skills and aptitudes
  • To assist the department manager to lead by example a professional punctual and dedicated team and demonstrate behaviour consistent with the Mission Statement of St Vincent's University Hospital
  • Deputise for the Manager as requested and carry out any administrative duties that may be required.
  • Other appropriate duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Hospital.
