HEAVY VEHICLE MECHANIC – Cork

Roster: Monday - Friday

Pay Rate:
Salary - €43,317.54 - €54,320.99
Weekly - €830.37 - €1041.30

The purpose of this role is to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the company's fleet through expert maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of heavy vehicles and associated equipment. The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic plays a key role in maximising fleet availability, maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards, and supporting the overall performance of transport operations. This position requires a proactive approach to problem‑solving, a commitment to quality workmanship, and effective collaboration within the maintenance team to deliver vehicles that are fully service-ready and meet company and regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on all fleet types to company standards and within safety regulations.
  • Take initiative to complete tasks efficiently and proactively identify issues before they escalated.
  • Utilise workshop resources, tools, and parts effectively to optimise repair turnaround times.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed accurately, safely, and within agreed deadlines.
  • Train, guide, and support apprentices in practical skills and safe working practices.
  • Complete accurate service records, defect reports, and communicate effectively with Supervisors and colleagues.
  • Present vehicles post‑repair in a ready‑to‑use condition – ensuring all touchpoints are operational and vehicles are clean inside and out.
Essential Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
  • QQI Level 6 Award in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or Construction Plant Fitting (or equivalent qualification).
  • Demonstrated high level of technical competence in diagnostics, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proven experience in a similar heavy vehicle maintenance environment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across shifts and functions.
  • Sound knowledge of safety standards, vehicle inspection procedures, and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to work independently with strong problem‑solving and time‑management skills.
