Job summary

Tuath Housing Association in Ireland is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to lead safety culture, develop policies, and ensure compliance across our housing operations and offices.   • Experience of working with the public in a customer-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Participation in forums/working groups/committees as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and monitor work processes, policies and procedures to identify unsafe practices or breaches of safety regulations.
  • Monitor and assess workplace situations and ensure safety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct office and equipment inspections to ensure correct installation and operation.
  • Create safety documentation with assistance from Corporate Services for safety plans, audits and training.
  • Facilitate and schedule repairs of unsafe or damaged equipment.
  • Organise and deliver internal health and safety training for staff; external training as required.
  • Investigate incidents to identify root causes of hazards.
  • Oversee safety signage placement and setup to warn of hazards.
  • Prepare and present safety operation reports to Senior Management; create presentations for internal/external use.
  • Collaborate with external bodies/investigators on workplace accidents.

Position Summary

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for promoting a positive health and safety culture within Tuath Housing and for maintaining minimum standards of health and safety, and for ensuring that they are complied with. They will create policies and procedures which help maintain a safe work environment for company employees and will deliver relevant health and safety training to staff.

The successful candidate will
  • Develop, maintain and monitor work processes, policies and procedures to identify unsafe practices or breach of safety regulations
  • Monitor and assess situations that develop in the workplace and assess the safety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct office and equipment inspection to ensure they are correctly installed and operational
  • Create all safety documentation with assistance from the Corporate Services department in developing safety plans, office audits and safety training
  • Facilitate and schedule repairs of unsafe or damaged equipment
  • Organise and carry-out internal health and safety training to educate staff on necessary safety principles and procedures
  • Organise any external health and safety training required to educate staff on necessary safety principles and procedures, including but not limited to lone working, manual handling etc
  • Carry out investigations to identify the root cause of an incident or other unsafe conditions on a work site
  • Oversee the placement and setup of safety signs to warn of potential hazards
  • Prepare and present reports of safety operations to Senior Management as required and prepare presentations as required for both internal and external use
  • Collaborate with external bodies and investigators to address cases of workplace accidents
  • Offer recommendations on safety topics such as proper waste disposal, fire regulations, and noise
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify work areas with high risk of operational hazard
  • Oversee company waste disposal methods to ensure they comply with safe disposal procedures
  • Review Tuath's operational processes to ensure they are in line with external safety legislations
  • Attend occupational safety and health trainings as required
  • Organise drills for members of staff to train them on the appropriate response in case of an emergency
  • Engage with industry to ensure effective horizon scanning and continuous improvements
Requirements
  • At least 3 years' experience in an office-based health and safety managerial role
  • Relevant third-level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Facilities Management or other related discipline (Desirable)
  • Strong knowledge of Health and Safety Regulatory and Legal Framework
  • Experience of training delivery and evaluation
  • Ability to prepare policies and Health & Safety Statements
  • Experience of working with the public in a customer-oriented environment
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • To participate on forums/working groups/committees as required
