Job summary

Sacyr UK and Ireland is seeking a Health & Safety Environmental Assistant for the West Apron Vehicle Underpass project at Dublin Airport. This is a six‑month fixed‑term position reporting to the Health & Safety Manager and supporting the site teams to meet health, safety and environmental obligations.

You will develop and review safe systems of work, provide guidance on risk assessments and method statements, support training, inductions, audits and incident investigations, and contribute to

Qualifications

  • Legal right to work in Ireland.
  • Willingness to complete a 5-year background screening.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Construction Safety and Health or NEBOSH Diploma.
  • Minimum 5 years of construction experience in a similar role.
  • Safe Pass card appropriate for the role.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Experience in a civils project environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health & safety legislation.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite and collaboration tools.
  • Good numeracy, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Support production, review and approval of safe systems of work (SSoW).
  • Provide guidance on SSoW development for planned works.
  • Assist with development of works plans, logistics and traffic management.
  • Support workforce enrolment and site induction processes.
  • Ensure employees have appropriate training and qualifications.
  • Undertake health & safety inspections and audits and report findings.
  • Attend and support safety meetings chaired by H&S Manager.
  • Assist with incident investigations and action follow-ups.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and test best practices for project execution.

As a Health & Safety Environmental Assistant, you’ll be at the heart of an exciting new West Apron Vehicle Underpass project at Dublin Airport. Join our dynamic team and make a difference! This is a 6-month fixed-term position.

The Health & Safety Environmental Assistant will work within the project’s Health & Safety Team supporting the various project teams to fulfil their health and safety responsibilities and achieve the project’s health and safety obligations, strategies and targets. The role will report directly to the project’s Health & Safety Manager.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Support the construction team managers and supervisors with production, review and approval of safe systems of work SSoW (risk assessments, method statements, work plans, etc.), produced by both Sacyr Wills JV and the supply chain.

  • Provide advice and guidance to construction managers on actions required to obtain or develop SSoW for planned works.

  • Support construction managers with the development and maintenance of works plans, e.g. Logistics Plans, Traffic Management Plans, etc.

  • Supporting the project’s workforce enrolment and site induction process.

  • Supporting construction management to ensure that employees have appropriate training and qualifications.

  • Undertake regular health and safety compliance inspections and audits, reporting on findings and following up any actions arising with the appropriate construction managers and supervisors.

  • Attend and support health and safety meetings arranged and chaired by both the H&S Manager and the construction team.

  • Assist with the identification, development and delivery of appropriate health and safety briefings (Toolbox Talks, etc).

  • Support incident investigations.

  • Build, develop and nurture business relationships with internal and external customers vital to the success of the project.

  • Develop and test best practices and tools for project execution and management.

Essential criteria:
  • Legal right to work in the Republic of Ireland
  • Willingness to complete a 5-year background screening as part of the hiring process.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Construction Safety and Health or NEBOSH Diploma.

  • Minimum 5 years of construction experience in a similar role.

  • Safe Pass skills card appropriate for the role.

  • Full driving license

  • Experience of working within a civils project team.

  • Excellent knowledge of Ireland health & safety legislation relevant to the construction industry.

  • Computer literate and conversant with MS Office suite, e.g Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams.

  • Good numeracy skills and the ability to make mathematical calculations.

  • Good communication, listening and negotiation skills.

  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills and experience.

  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines.

Desirable criteria:
  • Tech IoSH or higher membership.
