Job summary

Cowper Care Centre in Dublin 6 is seeking a Healthcare Assistant for its Nursing Home, Gascoigne House, Rathmines, to provide person-centred care to residents with dignity and compassion.

You will assist with daily living activities, support in social and recreational activities, and work under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager. Garda vetting and Police clearance are required; QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support is desirable.

Qualifications

• Strong written English is required.
• Strong spoken English is required.
• Garda Vetting and Police Clearance will be required.

Responsibilities

• Maximise the independence of residents and support them to achieve the highest possible quality of life.
• Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to residents, promoting equality and dignity.
• Carry out daily living activities under supervision (washing, toileting, dressing, dining, etc.).
• Contribute to a range of social, recreational and educational activities for residents.
• Maximise emotional and physical comfort of residents.
• Report changes observed in residents’ physical or mental state to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
• Maintain a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors.
• Assist with serving resident meals with awareness of dietary needs.

Job description

Cowper Care is seeking applications for the role of Healthcare Assistant for its Nursing Home - Gascoigne House, Rathmines, Dublin 6.

Purpose

To provide quality person centred care to our residents that is both efficient and effective.

The Health Care Assistant will

• Maximise the independence of the resident. Provide support to the resident to achieve the highest possible quality of Life. Afford every opportunity to the resident to live and die with dignity.
• Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to residents, promoting their equality and dignity at all times.
• Carry out assigned and delegated tasks involving direct care and all activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager e.g. washing, toileting, dressing, and undressing, dining and all other aspects of daily living.
• Contribute to a range of social, recreational and educational activities aimed at providing a stimulating environment for the residents.
• Maximise the emotional and physical comfort of residents.
• Participate in care delivery as outlined in the resident's care plan, reporting any changes observed in a resident's physical or mental state.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for the residents, staff and visitors.
• Engage in the serving of resident meals with an awareness of their dietary needs and assistance required.

Requirements

• Experience in a nursing home environment or relevant experience
• Strong written and spoken English
• Desirable: QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support
• Knowledge of and experience in dementia care
• Garda Vetting and Police Clearance will be required for the successful applicant.
