Health and Safety Officer | Co Galway

My client, a leading manufacturing company, is seeking a Health and Safety Officer to join their team. This position is based at their headquarters in Tuam, Co Galway, with regular travel to additional sites. You will play a key role in driving a proactive safety culture and ensuring high standards across all locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve the Group Environmental, Health and Safety Management System
  • Ensure statutory compliance across Ireland and the UK
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture
  • Develop and review policies, procedures, and safe systems of work
  • Carry out risk assessments, inspections, and audits
  • Oversee contractor management and compliance
  • Deliver induction and ongoing H&S training
  • Liaise with authorities including the HSA, HSE, EPA, and Fire Department
  • Manage chemical safety and hazardous waste processes
  • Lead accident and incident investigations
  • Analyse EHS data and identify improvement opportunities
  • Support HR with policy updates and documentation
What We Are Looking For
  • Degree (Level 7 or higher) in Occupational Safety and Health or related area
  • Ideally three years' experience in a similar role
  • QQI Manual Handling Instructor certification an advantage
  • Occupational First Aid certification desirable
  • Strong IT, communication, and presentation skills
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and committed to continuous improvement
