Job summary

EirGrid Group, based in Ireland, is seeking a Head of Outage Management to govern transmission outages and drive safe, secure operation of the power system. The role leads policy development, risk management and stakeholder collaboration to balance maintenance with new infrastructure delivery.

The successful candidate will manage outage plans across time horizons, optimise outage windows and ensure data governance, while guiding teams and external partners through complex operational challenges.

Responsibilities

• Own and continuously enhance the Transmission Outage Programme, ensuring outages are assessed, ranked and approved based on system risk, asset condition, customer impact, regulatory obligations and delivery requirements.
• Lead the governance of year-ahead, seasonal and multiyear transmission outage plans, aligning maintenance, refurbishment, reinforcement and connection programmes with operational security requirements.
• Drive outage utilisation and optimisation, maximising efficient use of outage windows while minimising impacts on system security, market operations, customers and delivery programmes.
• Ensure the integrity, accuracy and governance of outage data, including recording, validation, performance reporting, forecasting and maintenance of outage management databases.
• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of outage management systems and digital tools to enhance planning, analytics, workflow management and stakeholder engagement.
• Provide leadership during periods of network constraint or competing outage demands, making risk-based decisions that protect security of supply and maximise network availability.

The Opportunity

We are now seeking a Head of Outage Management to join the Operations Chief Office. The successful candidate will report to the Director of TSO Operations and will play a pivotal role in governing, planning and coordinating transmission system outages to support the safe, secure and reliable operation of the power system.

The role holder will lead the development and execution of outage management policies, processes and programmes that balance network maintenance, new infrastructure delivery, customer connections and operational security requirements. Success in the role will be determined by the ability to optimise outage windows, manage operational risk and build strong working relationships with ESB Networks, generators, interconnector operators, developers and other key stakeholders.

The Team

The Operations Chief Office is responsible for operating Ireland’s power system, EirGrid’s first and most fundamental responsibility. The team operates today’s system with reliability, safety and security, while adapting it for a very different future. It is also responsible for operating and developing efficient and transparent electricity markets, delivering the energy transition and driving affordable outcomes for consumers.

About you

• Engineering degree with extensive technical experience of power system operations, ideally including outage management.
• Proven ability to lead complex portfolios that support infrastructure delivery while managing a broad range of stakeholders.
• Experience balancing operational, maintenance and capital delivery priorities in a business-critical environment.
• Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate and resolve conflict.
• Proven stakeholder engagement capability, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and confidently.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage operational risk and adapt to changing demands.
