Job Title: Head of Mission, Bon Secours Hospital Dublin

Reports to: Chief Sponsorship and Mission Officer

Service Relationship: Hospital CEO

Location: Bon Secours Hospital Dublin

Job Purpose

The Head of Mission assists the Group Chief Sponsorship and Mission Officer by providing leadership and direction to ensure the integration and continuation of the Mission and Values of Bon Secours Mercy Health. Overall responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas: the integration of mission and values into the organizational culture, community benefit, spiritual care and ethics. This leader is responsible for developing, coordinating and measuring efforts to ensure that the principles and traditions of the Catholic Health Ministry, the tradition and spirit of the Sponsors, and the Mission and Core Values of Bon Secours Mercy Health are integrated into the organization's operations, structures, programs and practices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates Mission Integration leadership through teaching, promoting, and monitoring the mission and values of Bon Secours Mercy Health in light of the history and tradition of the sponsors and the teachings of the Catholic Church in such a way that they become a hallmark of performance in every area of the organization.
  • Provides a visible and effective mission presence to leaders and staff and collaborates with them to develop the organizational culture through activities such as, but not limited to, recruitment and orientation, cultural diversity, performance evaluation, leadership development and formation, prayers and rituals, art and environment, recognition, awards and celebrations.
  • Participates in the orientation and onboarding of Associates and Medical Staff utilizing the "Bon Secours Mercy Health Mission Integration Charter" as a teaching guide.
  • Supports and advances a culture of organizational spirituality and an environment of healing.
  • Collaborates in programs of the Centre for Ministry Formation; supports and develops other opportunities for faith formation of associates.
  • Orients new managers to their role in clinical and organizational ethics.
  • Oversees, supports and advocates for high quality spiritual care services throughout the continuum of care as demonstrated by compliance with Bon Secours Mercy Health Spiritual Care standards and the provision of effective and appropriately staffed Spiritual Care services.
  • Supports the leader of Spiritual Services OR, in the absence of such leader, serves that function and occasionally, certified through the Association of Professional Chaplains or the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, performs the duties of the pastoral staff.
  • Performs administrative and management functions, including, but not limited to: assignment of work to staff; management of workloads; verifying accuracy of staff work; staff selection, training and performance management.

Essential Qualifications
  • 4 year/ Bachelors
  • Degree- Specialty/Major: Theology, Religious Studies
  • Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains or the
  • National Association of Catholic Chaplains (if there is no separate Spiritual Care leader)
Desirable Qualifications

Graduate Degree (Masters)- Specialty/Major: Theology, Religious Studies

Essential Experience

5-7 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a multi-state/multi-entity health care or not-for-profit organization. Leadership experience with faith-based organizations.

Essential Skills

Strong working knowledge of Catholic theology, as outlined in CHA Competencies for Mission Leaders, strong working knowledge of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, committed to embracing and sharing the values of Bon Secours Mercy Health System, strong sense of service orientation and skilled at relationship building. Effective communicator who can work collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies, outstanding public speaking and presentation skills, effective negotiator who can advocate effectively and build consensus, effective research, analytical, judgment, and problem solving skills.
