INFORM3 RECRUITMENT General Manager Location: Kilkenny Sector: Civil

INFORM3 are currently recruiting a General Manager for a busy civils client to oversee all yard operations, materials handling, logistics, safety, and site maintenance at the yard facility. In addition to ensure efficient flow of materials, preparation of orders, loading/unloading, site housekeeping, coordination with production, dispatch and transport. Maintain high standards of safety, quality and productivity.

General Manager Responsibilities:
  • Manage the yard facility: organising stock, materials, equipment, and yard layout to optimise space and flow.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics: receiving raw materials, organising deliveries, loading outgoing orders, liaising with drivers and transport.
  • Supervise yard personnel (e.g., yard operatives, forklift drivers, dispatch staff). Allocate tasks, monitor performance, support training and development.
  • Plan and prioritise yard activities to meet production/dispatch schedules and customer delivery requirements.
  • Maintain inventory tracking of stock levels, materials and equipment in the yard; liaise with procurement/production to ensure materials availability.
  • Ensure equipment (forklifts, loaders, trucks, pumps) in the yard is inspected, maintained and operated safely.
  • Enforce site safety, housekeeping, environmental standards – ensure yard is clean, tidy, free of hazards, complies with company and regulatory standards.
  • Implement, monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yard throughput, loading times, order accuracy, on-time dispatch, material wastage.
  • Liaise with Production, Sales, Dispatch, Transport and Maintenance teams to ensure smooth coordination between yard operations and overall company workflow.
  • Assist with planning for future yard expansion, layout improvements, equipment upgrades, sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation (health & safety, environmental, transport) and internal company policies.
General Manager Specification:
  • Previous experience in a yard/warehouse/ logistics/ materials-handling supervisory role is advantageous
  • Good organisational and planning skills, able to prioritise tasks in a busy yard environment.
  • Supervisory experience – managing a small team, allocating tasks, and motivating staff.
  • Strong communication skills – ability to liaise with multiple internal departments and external transport/driver personnel.
  • Health & Safety awareness and experience implementing safe working practices.
  • Basic mechanical/plant awareness (forklift, loader operations) and willingness to ensure maintenance and safe use.
  • Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Good computer/IT skills (for stock/inventory tracking systems, spreadsheets, scheduling).
  • Valid driving licence. Forklift / plant operator licences an advantage.
