Job summary

Datacenter People is seeking engineers to join a large European commissioning team on hyperscale data centre projects. You will act as the client’s representative, ensuring all critical systems are installed, tested and ready for live operation.

The role welcomes both early-career engineers and seasoned professionals with field service or OEM backgrounds. Commissioning experience is a bonus but not mandatory; you will work across UPS, generators, switchgear, BMS/BAS, HVAC and related systems,

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with electrical power distribution or mechanical systems from a trade, military, or degree.
• Field-based fault-finding and diagnostic experience on equipment.
• Familiarity with test equipment and ability to document findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems: UPS, generators, switchgear, BMS/BAS and HVAC.
• QA/QC of equipment installation and construction observations.
• Writing functional test plans, start-up and commissioning procedures.
• Running tests on site and ensuring compliance with standards and procedures.
• Reviewing designs, analysing test data and writing technical reports.
• Collaborating with vendors and contractors to resolve on-site issues.
• Helping train operations and maintenance teams before handover.

Job description

Do you service UPS, generators, switchgear or cooling plant, and know the kit inside out? This role lets you test and sign off whole hyperscale data centres instead of one part of them.

We're hiring for a large European commissioning provider that works on some of the biggest data centre builds in Europe. They act as the owner's representative, so you'll be on the client's side, checking that every critical system is installed, tested and ready to go live.

Commissioning experience is a bonus, but you don't need it. Many of the team come from field service and OEM backgrounds, and the role is open to earlier-career engineers as well as experienced ones.

What you will be doing

• Commissioning mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems: UPS, generators, STS, PDUs, switchgear, BMS/BAS and HVAC
• QA/QC of equipment installation and construction observations
• Writing functional test plans, start-up and commissioning procedures
• Running tests on site and making sure they meet standards and procedures
• Reviewing designs, analysing test data and writing technical reports
• Working with vendors and contractors to solve problems on site
• Helping train operations and maintenance teams before handover

What you will bring

• Hands-on experience in electrical power distribution and/or mechanical systems, gained through a trade, the military or a degree
• Field-based fault-finding and diagnostic experience on equipment
• Confidence with test equipment such as AC/DC amp probes, DVMs, phase rotation meters, battery conductance and load testers, and micro-ohm meters
• Clear written and spoken communication; comfortable dealing with clients
• Good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally for projects

Nice to have

• Field service, start-up or commissioning experience (e.g. with Vertiv, Schneider, Eaton, ABB, Cummins, Caterpillar, Stulz, Carrier)
• Data centre or other mission-critical experience, such as utilities, hospitals, telecoms or pharma
• Exposure to L3-L5 / IST commissioning, FAT/SAT or test-script writing
• Electrical or mechanical knowledge
• AutoCAD
