Job summary

Abbeyleix House and Farm seeks an experienced rider to join a dedicated team, supporting the operations of the equine facilities on the Estate. You will ride, assess horses, and develop schooling plans with the Head of Equestrian, ensuring high presentation and care standards for guests.

You will instruct riders of all ages, maintain welfare standards, and contribute to day-to-day tasks across stables and arena. A full driving licence and initiative are essential.

Qualifications

• High level of experience riding a range of horses (ages), including schooling, hacking, jumping, lunging, and long-reining.
• Experience training horses to elementary dressage level.
• Experience training horses to jump up to 1m.
• Experience instructing riders of all ages and abilities.
• Proven ability to maintain high standards of equine care.
• Team player who contributes to a welcoming environment.
• Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise objectives and meet deadlines.
• Full clean driving licence.

Responsibilities

Situated on a thousand acres of parkland along the River Nore in County Laois, Abbeyleix House and Farm is a carefully preserved country estate with hundreds of years of history.

We are seeking to hire a rider to work with a dedicated team to support the operations of the equine facilities on the Estate, ensuring a high level of professional presentation is met and maintained.

• Ride horses, assess their way of going and implement appropriate schooling/exercise plans in conjunction with the Head of Equestrian.
• Ensure adequate provision of suitable horses and resources which meet the needs of the riders.
• Provide practical instruction to learners in an effective and innovative way, to ensure that guests' individual learning needs are met.
• Maintain the highest standards of horse health and welfare.
• Carry out all appropriate routine practical tasks associated with the day-to-day running of the equine facilities (stables, arena etc).
• Care for rescue horses and support the rehoming programme.

Qualifications & Skills

• High level of experience of riding a range of horses (and ages), including schooling, hacking, jumping, lunging and long reigning.
• Experience of training horses to an elementary dressage level.
• Experience of training horses to jump up to 1m.
