Job description

This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.

Job Description

This Work Placement Experience Programme role offers a hands‑on opportunity to gain practical experience in event management, community engagement, and operations within The Green Market – a not‑for‑profit community enterprise based in Moycullen, Galway. The participant will support the organisation and delivery of a variety of community‑focused events and initiatives such as the regular Saturday indoor markets, art exhibitions, repair cafés, fundraising concerts, and our community cinema. The role provides a genuine opportunity to learn new skills, work alongside experienced mentors, and build confidence in a supportive, inclusive setting.

  • Assisting in the planning, setup, and coordination of community events and markets.
  • Supporting day‑to‑day operations, including liaising with stallholders, artists, and customers.
  • Helping to promote events through social media and in‑person engagement.
  • Gaining experience in customer service, cash handling, and stocktaking.
  • Assisting management in delivering scheduled community activities.
  • Learning how to maintain event spaces, including light cleaning and preparation duties.
  • Supporting sustainability and waste reduction practices central to The Green Market’s mission.

Throughout the placement, the participant will receive ongoing supervision and guidance from a designated mentor. The mentor will provide structured feedback, support skill development, and ensure that the participant is fully included in the learning process. This placement offers the opportunity to learn about event logistics, marketing, teamwork, and health & safety practices, while gaining real‑world insight into community development and environmental enterprise management. No prior experience is required. The placement is suitable for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable, and willing to learn in a community‑based setting. An interest in events, sustainability, or the arts would be an advantage but not essential.
