Job summary

Job description

Monzo Europe is our Irish-based subsidiary and the home for Monzo’s expansion across the European Union. We’re seeking an experienced Enterprise Risk Manager to help grow safely and sustainably.

Role

This role is a Controlled Function (CF-2) within the meaning of the Central Bank Reform Act 2010. Appointment will be conditional on satisfying the Central Bank of Ireland fitness and probity standards. As a CF, the role holder must take reasonable steps to ensure relevant conduct standards are met.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with first‑line teams to embed enterprise risk management activities across the organisation.
  • Coordinate and maintain the Risk Appetite Framework and Statement across the EU, ensuring it reflects the appetite for all material risks.
  • Lead the refresh of the enterprise risk identification and materiality assessment process, covering all material risks inherent to Monzo.
  • Execute the risk horizon scanning and emerging risk assessment process, coordinating detailed impact analyses across business lines to proactively identify and mitigate future risks.
  • Promote a strong enterprise risk culture by embedding risk awareness at all levels and delivering comprehensive training and awareness programmes.
  • Maintain the EU Risk Taxonomy and risk register, ensuring accurate classification and management of risks and controls.
  • Maintain the impact matrix, ensuring it accurately reflects the potential impact of identified risks.
  • Support the delivery of comprehensive risk reports to the Board and Executive Committees.
  • Assist executive governance committees through effective coordination, administration and continuous improvement of governance processes.
  • Provide committee secretariat support to ensure seamless escalation and regulatory compliance across the EU entity.
  • Embed Enterprise Frameworks, Policies and Standards in Europe, ensuring they are effectively implemented and reflect Monzo Group activities.
Qualifications
  • Proven track record working in risk management roles within financial services in heavily regulated environments.
  • Proficiency in Enterprise Risk Management tools and processes (risk frameworks, risk governance, risk assessments, risk appetite, risk reporting).
  • Strong knowledge of risk regulatory requirements from various European bodies, including the CBI, EBA, ECB/SSM and Basel frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of digital banking products, operations and associated risks.
  • Excellent analytical, relationship management and communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment, handling complexity with ease and communicating effectively.
  • Passion for financial technology and motivation to be at the forefront of banking transformation in Ireland and across the EU.
