Job summary

Bon Secours Health System Hospital Galway in Ireland is seeking a Staff Nurse (Potel Ward) on a permanent part‑time basis (23 hours/week). The role focuses on delivering high-quality orthopaedic and acute post-surgery nursing care, underpinned by evidence-based practice and patient-centered care.

Ideal candidates will be RGN qualified with NMBI registration, strong teamwork and communication skills, and a flexible mindset to rotate between day and night shifts.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years nursing experience post-registration preferred.
• Experience in Orthopaedic/Surgical nursing is advantageous.
• Able to work as part of a team and be personally and professionally accountable for patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide high standard nursing care to patients.
• Apply the nursing process and clinical judgement in patient care.
• Administer medicines, IV drugs, blood products and controlled drugs per policy.
• Record and monitor patient status and report adverse events or errors.
• Participate in discharge planning and care coordination.
• Follow infection control guidelines and manage medical waste as required.

Staff Nurse (Potel Ward)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Staff Nurse (Potel Ward) to join the Bon Secours Health System Hospital Galway. Ireland’s Largest Private Healthcare provider.

Job Purpose

Staff nurses (Potel Ward) are responsible for providing a high standard of nursing care to patients, the application of the nursing process and the scientific knowledge, judgement and technical skills of professional nursing in delivering care to patient population of Orthopaedic and Acute Care post-Surgery.

Ideal Candidate

Personally, and professionally accountable for patient care

RGN qualification and NMBI registration

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Flexible approach to work patterns as the post holder will be required to rotate between days and nights

Essential Qualifications

Have 1/ 2 years nursing experience post-registration preferably in Orthopaedic/ Surgical Nursing.

Experience & Responsibility

Carries out nursing care and treatments to the highest possible standard according to agreed Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.

Participate in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care based on the nursing process approach and maintains appropriate records. Implements discharge planning based on patient care needs

Administer medicines, IV drugs, blood/blood products and controlled drugs according to agreed policies. Records and monitors patients post administration according to policy and reports any adverse events or medication errors

Adheres to Best Practice Guidelines in controlling infection and reports/manage infections as dictated by policy and work closely with Infection Control Nurse. Handles and correctly disposes of medical waste as per hospital policy
