Job summary

embecta Penel Irish Branch is seeking an experienced maintenance engineer to act as the technical SME for high-speed, fully automated packaging equipment at our Dublin-area site.

You will monitor performance, drive OEE improvements, lead fault investigations, and coordinate repairs and upgrades while supporting production and maintenance teams. The role also emphasizes safety, Lean TPM and continuous improvement across the site.

Qualifications

  • National Craft Certificate, Engineering Technician qualification, or a third-level qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems in automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Practical troubleshooting and fault-finding experience.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across functions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good computer literacy and experience using engineering/maintenance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical SME for high-speed, fully automated packaging equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve OEE, reliability, and waste reduction.
  • Provide hands-on technical support to Production and Maintenance teams, troubleshooting issues and driving timely resolutions.
  • Lead investigations into recurring faults and performance losses, implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Apply learnings from breakdowns to continuously improve maintenance strategies and machine performance.
  • Plan and coordinate repairs, upgrades, overhauls, and equipment improvement projects, including spare parts management.
  • Partner with suppliers, contractors, and equipment manufacturers for optimization and problem-solving.
  • Support investigations related to quality events, customer complaints, and manufacturing defects with improvement actions.
  • Develop and coach engineering technicians, apprentices, and team members.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and equipment optimization initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, maintenance records, performance reports, and engineering metrics.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by upholding high safety and housekeeping standards.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for high-speed, fully automated packaging equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and proactively identify opportunities to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reliability, and waste reduction.
  • Provide hands‑on technical support to Production and Maintenance teams, troubleshooting issues and driving timely resolution of equipment challenges.
  • Lead investigations into recurring faults and performance losses, implementing sustainable corrective and preventative actions.
  • Apply learnings from breakdowns, stoppages, and quality issues to continuously improve maintenance strategies and machine performance.
  • Plan and coordinate repairs, upgrades, overhauls, and equipment improvement projects, including spare parts management.
  • Partner with suppliers, contractors, and equipment manufacturers to support equipment optimisation and technical problem‑solving.
  • Support investigations relating to quality events, customer complaints, and manufacturing defects, implementing improvement actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute to the development and coaching of engineering technicians, apprentices, and new team members.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • National Craft Certificate, Engineering Technician qualification, or a third‑level qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Experience working within a high‑volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems associated with automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Practical troubleshooting and fault‑finding experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to investigate root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple functions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good computer literacy and experience using engineering or maintenance systems.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience supporting automated packaging equipment.
  • Experience with Schubert packaging systems or similar high‑speed automated packaging technologies.
  • Exposure to automation, PLC‑controlled equipment, sensors, robotics, vision systems, or industrial control systems.
  • Experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Food Manufacturing, or other regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement tools.
