Overview

Engineering Manager (Applications AI) at NewsWhip by Sprout Social. NewsWhip is the leading provider of predictive media intelligence, tracking and predicting engagement with the world’s news stories. Our platform is used daily by journalists, top-tier publications, global PR agencies, brands, NGOs, and not-for-profits.

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead two multi-disciplinary feature teams delivering NewsWhip’s AI roadmap. You will work closely with Product and UX leaders to shape and execute our AI strategy while managing diverse engineering teams delivering innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product and UX leads as part of the core product delivery triad (Design, PM, Engineering) to explore opportunities
• Contribute to product strategy and roadmap planning with technical perspective and feasibility assessments
• Drive feature definition and scope in collaboration with Product Management and UX Design
• Balance customer needs, technical constraints, and business goals to inform product decisions
• Identify and communicate AI technology opportunities aligned with business goals and customer needs; shape the product vision through technical innovation
• Facilitate discovery sessions and technical spikes to validate approaches and identify risks early
• Lead and mentor two cross-functional engineering teams (~8/9 engineers) across Backend, Frontend, Data Platform, and DS/ML
• Foster a collaborative environment where Engineering, Product, and UX work seamlessly together
• Drive engineering excellence while aligning with product goals and timelines
• Manage team performance, career development, and growth; own team metrics, capacity planning, and resource allocation
• Ensure delivery plans, team structure, and outputs align with business objectives and product goals; maintain focus on measurable customer and business impact

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years in engineering management
• Strong track record partnering with Product Management and UX teams
• Experience leading product discovery and solution design processes
• Proven ability to influence product strategy through technical leadership
• Strong technical background in Backend Development, Data Engineering, or Machine Learning
• Experience managing diverse technical teams and coordinating cross-functional initiatives
• Understanding of modern AI/ML technologies, cloud platforms, and software architecture
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience with agile methodologies and modern software development practices
• Proven ability to mentor and develop engineering talent

Technical expertise (areas)

• Large Language Models and their APIs
