Job summary

Johnson & Johnson in Cork, Ireland invites applications for a 4-year Electrical & Instrumentation Apprenticeship. Successful apprentices will train on-site in a GMP pharmaceutical plant, rotating through electrical, instrumentation and automation duties while completing SOLAS-qualified block release off-site.

The programme develops hands-on maintenance, calibration and fault-finding skills, enabling progression to a qualified E&I technician.

Qualifications

• Leaving Certificate with a pass in Math and English
• Interest in electrical and instrumentation activities with basic hands-on proficiency
• Positive mindset with eagerness to learn in the E&I trade and foundation in Maths/Physics/Engineering/Technical Drawing/Construction Studies/AgriScience

Responsibilities

• Develop the knowledge to become a qualified Electrical and Instrumentation Technician in a pharma setting
• Work with maintenance personnel gaining hands-on experience in maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair
• Complete SOLAS apprenticeship requirements and related educational blocks

We are searching for the best talents for the 4 years Electrical & Instrumentation Apprentice roles to be in Cork, Ireland.

Purpose

The apprenticeships will provide the opportunity for the suitable candidate to become fully qualified in the relevant discipline through a mixture of on‑site work experience and off‑site block release with SOLAS (previously FAS) through their Standards Based Apprenticeship Programme. The apprentices will be trained on a broad range of equipment and systems as used in a pharmaceutical production facility.

The Maintenance E&I Apprentice

The Maintenance E&I Apprentice will develop the knowledge, skills and experience required to become a qualified Electrical and Instrumentation Technician within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The apprentice will work alongside experienced maintenance personnel, gaining practical hands‑on experience in the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of site equipment and utilities while completing the formal educational requirements of the apprenticeship programme.

Apprentice Role Exposure

The role provides exposure to a wide range of electrical, instrumentation, automation and reliability activities within a highly regulated GMP environment.

Apprentices will be invited to attend their off‑the‑training phases in accordance with the SOLAS scheduling system.

Required Qualifications

• Leaving Certificate with a pass in Math and English
• Interest in electrical and instrumentation activities and basic hands‑on or practical proficiency.
• A positive mindset and eagerness to learn within the E&I trade, coupled with a strong foundation or interest in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Technical Drawing, Construction Studies, or Agricultural Science.
