Job description

Our client is seeking a qualified dynamic EHS Specialist to join their Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) team to drive their commitment to environmental, health and safety excellence. This pivotal role ensures compliance and promotes a culture of safety across operations and life science client operations in Dublin.

The EHS Specialist will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including the Technical Hard Services Team and contractors, the Soft Service Team, the life science client facilities team and client EHS team to implement impactful EHS programs.

As the champion for EHS initiatives, the Specialist will support thr IFM team, a large range of contractors and client to achieve a zero-accident culture and carry out work to maintain an exemplary EHS record. The role empowers you to influence EHS policy and create a safe place to work and visit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • EHS Program Development and Improvement: Develop, implement, and continuously enhance the EHS programs, as well as those of clients, to ensure full compliance with Irish regulations and client policy requirements.
  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis: Conduct comprehensive risk assessment and hazard analyses across various operational areas to identify potential EHS risks and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
  • Contractor Management: Implement robust contractor management process to ensure compliance with all company requirements.
  • Safety Training Leadership: Lead and deliver safety training sessions to employees, client, and contractors to ensure awareness and adherence to EHS standards.
  • Audits and Inspections: Perform regular audits and inspections of operations and those contractor operations to ensure compliance with EHS legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Contractor Documentation Review: Review contractor documentation to ensure compliance with EHS requirements and standards.
  • Client Collaboration: Collaborate closely with client to integrate their EHS expectations and requirements into company operational practices.
  • EHS Incident Monitoring: Maintain electronic systems to monitor EHS incidents, near misses, and accidents. Conduct thorough investigations and develop corrective and preventative action plans as necessary.
Key Requirements:
  • Regulatory Compliance Expertise: You must possess a comprehensive understanding of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations to ensure compliance across all organisational levels. Recognised EHS qualifications are required.
  • Risk Assessment Management: You will be responsible for conducting thorough risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, and implementing effective corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Contractor Management Experience: You will be responsible for ensuring contractor meet client safety requirements.
  • EHS Policy Development: Demonstrate proficiency in developing, implementing, and maintaining robust EHS policies and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Incident Investigation: Conduct detailed investigations and root cause analyses of incidents and near-misses to prevent recurrence and improve safety practices.
  • EHS Training: Deliver comprehensive training on EHS-related topics to employees at all levels, ensuring they are well-informed and compliant with safety standards.
  • Leadership: Lead and mentor other EHS professionals, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the organisation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with client EHS and Facilities team to ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with client requirements.
  • KPI Alignment: Ensure that all EHS activities are carried out in alignment with key performance indicators (KPIs) to meet organisational goals and standards.
  • Report Writing:Exhibit strong report writing skills to document findings, compliance status, and recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Technical Proficiency:Be proficient in Microsoft systems and the use of software tools to manage EHS data and reporting effectively.
  • Life Science Industry Experience: Experience working in the life science industry is essential to understand the unique EHS challenges and requirements in this sector.
  • Facilities Management Knowledge: Facilities management experience and knowledge are desirable to support the integration of EHS practices within facility operations.
  • GMP Environment Knowledge: Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) environments is desirable to ensure compliance with industry-specific standards and regulations.

2. Regulatory Compliance
  • Knowledge of Regulations: In-depth understanding of local, and national health and safety regulations, including HSA guidance, IOSH, and other relevant bodies.
  • Policy Development: Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures that ensure compliance with all regulatory and client requirements.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor compliance and prepare checks and audits.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on changes in regulations, best practices and industry standards to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • b Conduct thorough investigations to determine the root cause of incidents and near-misses.
  • Data Collection: Gather and analyse data from various sources, including witness statements, physical evidence, and digital records.
  • Report Writing: Prepare detailed incident reports that include findings, conclusions, and recommendations for preventing future incidents.
  • Corrective Actions: Develop and implement corrective actions based on investigation findings to improve workplace safety.
4. EHS Training
  • Training Development: Design and develop comprehensive EHS training programs tailored to the specific needs of the organisation and client.
  • Presentation Skills: Deliver engaging and informative training sessions to employees and contractors at all levels.
  • Evaluation: Assess the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, testing, and observation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly update training materials to reflect new regulations, technologies, and best practices.
5 Auditing Experience
  • Audit Planning: Plan and schedule regular internal and external EHS audits to ensure compliance with regulations, company and client policies.
  • Detail-Oriented: Conduct thorough audits, meticulously checking all aspects of health and safety practices.
  • Reporting: Prepare clear and concise audit reports that highlight findings, non-compliances, and areas for improvement.
  • Verification: Ensure that corrective actions are implemented and verified following audit findings.
