EHS Project Engineer

Exciting opportunity for a EHS Project Engineer with our client, a pharmaceutical company based in Dundalk.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance across pharmaceutical manufacturing and R&D operations. This role involves integrating EHS principles into engineering projects, supporting regulatory adherence, and promoting continuous improvement in safety and sustainability practices. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise in high-hazard programs, chemical management, and construction and contractor EHS oversight within highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities
  • Integrate EHS requirements into capital projects, facility upgrades, and process changes.
  • Conduct Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) and ensure closure of EHS-related actions prior to commissioning.
  • Ensure engineering controls (e.g., LEV, isolators, interlocks) are designed and implemented effectively.
  • Perform field walkdowns to identify hazards and verify engineering controls.
  • Support criticality assessments for equipment, utilities, and processes impacting safety and compliance.
  • Assist in Biosafety programs including containment strategy validation.
  • Contribute to PHA and other PSM related assessments.
  • Facilitate PSDP and PSCS responsibilities to ensure compliance under the role of the client.
  • Lead development and implementation of High Hazard Programs (e.g., Construction Safety, ATEX, Process Safety Management).
  • Track and report EHS KPIs including near misses, project status, RAMS and PTW.
  • Support Hazardous Waste and Chemical Inventory systems in compliance with pharmaceutical regulations.
Requirements
  • BSc in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Advanced degree (MSc, MEng) preferred for complex pharmaceutical environment.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device or chemical manufacturing environments supporting projects/operations.
  • Proven experience supporting capital projects, facility upgrades, and equipment installations with EHS integration.
  • Experience managing hazardous waste, chemical inventories, and environmental permitting.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and implementation.
  • Experience conducting Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) and criticality assessments for new equipment and systems.
  • Familiarity with gas safety and chemical management and compliance.
