Job summary

Protex is seeking a seasoned systems and security engineer to own field provisioning, remote access, and OS management for our fleet of devices. You will deploy security tooling, manage kernels and updates, and design the box-to-production flow for new Protex devices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in systems administration, infrastructure, security engineering, or similar hands-on ops.
• Strong Linux fundamentals: packaging, init, networking, kernel troubleshooting, upgrades.
• Experience managing Linux fleet in the field: remote management, patching, observability.
• Degree in CS, Engineering, or related field.
• Hands-on with a mesh/VPN or zero-trust remote access solution.
• Solid networking: TCP/IP, DNS, NAT, firewalls, certificate handling.
• Experience deploying endpoint security and vulnerability scanning at scale.
• Experience with a major public cloud provider: compute, identity, monitoring, edge/IoT.
• Proficient in Python for automation and small services; Bash scripting.
• Security-minded: secrets management, least privilege, threat modelling.
• Owns work end-to-end: planning, delivery, documentation, cross-team cooperation.
• Responsive and proactive in field issues; willing to jump on urgent edge-device problems.
• Bias to documentation to reduce questions for others.

Responsibilities

• Own provisioning, access, security, and health of Protex devices in the field
• Run and evolve our remote access fabric for edge devices
• Deploy and operate security monitoring tools across remote devices
• Own OS updates, upgrades, and kernel/driver compatibility across the fleet
• Design end-to-end onboarding of a Protex device from box to production
• Maintain firewall, port, and endpoint docs for customer IT/security teams
• Manage internal Linux infra, identity, SSO, MDM, and day-to-day systems
