Job summary

Next Level Business Services Inc. is seeking a seasoned DBA to join the Database team. You will manage Oracle 19c and PostgreSQL 17 on AWS (RDS, Aurora, EC2) and work closely with developers, SysAdmins and DevOps.

You will provide production support, perform performance tuning and design DR plans. Collaboration across engineering teams and strong scripting skills are essential to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of DBA experience with Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Experience in both development and production environments.
• Flexible on shifts, with on-call rotation and weekend deployments.
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Production support: own stability, performance and availability; lead root cause analyses and change management.
• Database administration: installation, patching and upgrades on AWS; multi-AZ and cross-region setups.
• Performance tuning: analyze queries and indexes for scalability.
• Backup and DR: AWS Backup, RDS snapshots, and disaster recovery testing.
• Monitoring: set up proactive alerts with CloudWatch, Lambda and SNS.
• Releases and requests: script changes and meet SLAs.
• Automation: Python, PowerShell, AWS CLI and GitHub Actions; CI/CD integration.

Job description

The DBA will join the Database team within Managed Services. The team maintains cloud-hosted Oracle 19c and PostgreSQL 17 databases on AWS (RDS, Aurora and EC2) for internal and client-facing environments, and the DBA works closely with developers, system administrators and DevOps.

Key responsibilities

• Production support: own stability, performance and availability. Handle high-severity incidents through the SPGI process, including client bridge calls, and lead root cause analysis and change management.
• Database administration: installation, patching and upgrades on AWS; multi-AZ, read replica and cross-region setups; partitioning, compression and indexing.
• Performance tuning: in-depth system, query and index analysis; scalability improvements; guiding application teams on schemas and queries.
• Backup and DR: AWS Backup, RDS snapshots and Oracle RMAN; designing and testing disaster recovery plans.
• Monitoring: proactive alerts with CloudWatch, Lambda and SNS.
• Releases and requests: script database changes, package client releases on time, and meet request SLAs.
• Automation: Python, PowerShell, AWS CLI and GitHub Actions; integrating database changes into CI/CD pipelines.

Tools: OEM, Foglight, SQL Developer, pgAdmin, PL/SQL and PL/pgSQL, shell scripting, Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, Jira, ServiceNow and Confluence.
