Job summary

AMCS Group is seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join a dynamic engineering team in Dublin. You will manage internal and customer databases, focusing on reliability, security, and scalability across SQL Server, Azure SQL, and PostgreSQL.

You will work with Azure/AWS/GCP cloud platforms, automate tasks with PowerShell and Python, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance and incident resolution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Database Administration or related role with at least 2 years in cloud database environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Progressive experience with boxed databases and cloud DB management (Azure SQL, Amazon Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL).
  • Experience with SQL, T-SQL, PL/pgSQL and scripting languages.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, manage, and maintain internal development and customer SQL databases (SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Design, implement and manage cloud database infrastructure across Azure, AWS, GCP.
  • Automate tasks with scripting (PowerShell, Python) to improve efficiency.
  • Monitor, analyse, and optimise database performance across large estates.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design robust database solutions.
  • Act as SME during live customer incidents and drive data security and compliance.
  • Undertake database project work as required.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Database Administrator to join our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong database management background combined with a deep understanding of how databases really work. As a Database Administrator, you will not only mentor and guide our engineers but also participate in architectural and key decision‑making forums regarding our databases, ensuring a focus is always on the reliability of our systems and centred on positive customer experience. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our databases.

What You'll Do
  • Administer, manage, and maintain both internal development and customer SQL databases (SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, PostgreSQL).
  • Possess a good understanding of cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP) to design, implement and manage cloud database infrastructure.
  • Automate administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency through scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Python).
  • Monitor, analyse and optimise database performance across a large database estate.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve reported database-related issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and implement robust database solutions.
  • Act as the database Subject Matter Expert (SME) during the investigation and resolution of live customer incidents.
  • Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with all applicable policies and standards.
  • Undertake database project work as required
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in a Database Administration or related role with at least 2 of those years working in a cloud database environment.
  • Cloud Technologies: Good knowledge and understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Database Technologies: Progressive experience with boxed databases (e.g. SQL Server and PostgreSQL) together with hands‑on experience of cloud database management (e.g. Azure SQL Database, Amazon Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL).
  • Architectural Design: Proven experience in providing oversight, with a strong ability to make informed decisions that drive system performance and scalability.
  • Scripting: Strong SQL skills (including TSQL and PL/pgSQL) together with proficiency in languages such as PowerShell and Python.
  • DataOps: Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines for database changes.
  • Monitoring and Logging: Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana and DataDog.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Database certifications (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and/or cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, GCP) are highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards in cloud database environments.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL technologies.
  • Exposure to containerization.
