EXL in Dublin is seeking a Data QA Engineer to own quality assurance across data products, ensuring reliable, accurate, high-performing solutions through manual and automated testing. The role defines test strategies and reports on progress, risks, and defects to enable informed release decisions.

You will validate end-to-end data pipelines, test batch loads, validate transformations and KPIs, and monitor pipeline health with AWS services like S3, Glue, Lambda, and Redshift.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software quality assurance with a strong focus on manual testing.
• Experience testing data pipelines, ETL, or data warehouses.
• Strong SQL skills and data validation experience.
• Experience with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Redshift, CloudWatch).
• Experience validating structured and semi-structured data (Parquet, JSON, CSV).
• Strong QA methodologies, SDLC, and Agile/Scrum.

Summary of the role

The Data QA Engineer will own and drive quality assurance across our data products, ensuring the delivery of reliable, accurate, and high-performing solutions through a combination of manual and automated testing.

This role is responsible for defining and executing test strategies, championing quality best practices, and embedding a quality-first mindset across the engineering organisation. The Data QA Engineer will also provide clear, accurate, and timely reporting on test progress, quality risks, and defect status, enabling informed release decisions and continuous improvement of product quality.

As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:

• Validate end-to-end data pipelines from source systems to data marts.
• Test batch data loads.
• Validate transformations, aggregations, and derived metrics.
• Ensure data completeness, accuracy, and consistency across layers.
• Understanding of data governance, privacy, and PII handling

Data Warehouse & Data Mart Validation

• Write complex SQL queries to validate fact and dimension tables in Redshift.
• Perform reconciliation between raw, curated, and reporting layers.
• Validate business KPIs and metrics against source systems and definitions.

Operational Monitoring & Troubleshooting

• Review Glue job and Lambda execution logs to troubleshoot data issues.
• Monitor pipeline health, failures, and data refresh SLAs.

Qualifications and experience we consider to be essential for the role

• Strong SQL skills (joins, aggregations)
• Hands-on experience testing data pipelines, ETL, or data warehouses
• Experience with AWS services:
• AWS S3
• AWS Glue
• AWS Lambda
• AWS Step Functions
• AWS Redshift
• AWS CloudWatch
• Experience validating structured and semi-structured data (Parquet, JSON, CSV)
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modelling
• 5+ years’ experience in software quality assurance with a strong focus on manual testing
• Proven experience testing complex web and/or mobile applications
• Strong understanding of QA methodologies, SDLC, and Agile/Scrum
• Excellent test design, defect management, and reporting skills
• Experience with Jira, TestRail, or similar tools
• Automation skills to write automated tests for pipelines using a language like Python.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps)
