Job summary

Designer Group seeks a senior Data Centre EHS Leader to drive environmental, health and safety excellence across our European Data Centre portfolio. Based from a European project hub, you will lead EHS teams, align with BU leadership and ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement across multiple countries.

You will report to the Business Unit Director of Operations and collaborate with the Group EHS Manager to strengthen safety culture, implement ISO 45001/14001 standards, and

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' EHS leadership experience within construction or engineering projects.
  • Degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field; professional accreditation preferred.
  • Experience implementing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 across multiple countries.

  • Provide EHS leadership across Designer Group's European Data Centre projects.
  • Coordinate and develop EHS professionals across the BU.

Data Centre Business Unit EHS Lead – Europe

Location: Europe – Project Hub Based

Travel: Regular travel across European project locations

The Opportunity

Designer Group is seeking an experienced Data Centre Business Unit EHS Lead to provide Environmental, Health & Safety leadership across our growing European Data Centre portfolio.

Based from a Designer Group European project hub, you will work closely with Business Unit leadership, project teams and EHS professionals across multiple European locations.

This is a senior EHS leadership position with responsibility for supporting the consistent implementation of Designer Group's EHS management systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, improving EHS performance and developing a strong safety culture throughout the Data Centre Business Unit.

The role reports directly to the Business Unit Director of Operations, with escalation to the Group EHS Manager.

With a strong international project pipeline, this is an opportunity to join Designer Group at an important stage of our continued growth across the European data centre market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide EHS leadership across Designer Group's European Data Centre project portfolio.
  • Manage and coordinate project-based EHS professionals across the Business Unit.
  • Implement, administer and continuously improve EHS management systems, policies and programmes.
  • Ensure country-specific EHS procedures are established and compliant with applicable legislation, regulations and Designer Group management systems.
  • Partner with Business Unit and project leadership to identify, assess and manage EHS risks.
  • Support incident investigations, after-action reviews and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Act as a key EHS point of contact for clients, regulatory authorities and other external stakeholders.
  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, notifications, presentations and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor EHS performance and provide Business Unit leadership with relevant KPIs, data, trends and recommendations.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives across the Data Centre Business Unit.
  • Support statutory and non-statutory inspections and EHS audits.
  • Identify EHS training and competency requirements across different countries and project teams.
  • Develop and support delivery of EHS training programmes where required.
  • Provide EHS input into project planning and operational decision-making.
  • Support the development, review and approval of Project Execution Plans, SOPs, RAMS and dynamic risk assessments.
  • Use data, leading indicators and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Support health, wellbeing and wider EHS programmes across the Business Unit.
  • Represent Designer Group professionally with clients, supply-chain partners, regulatory bodies and local communities.
  • Participate in relevant professional organisations on behalf of Designer Group.
You should bring:
  • 5+ years' EHS leadership experience within construction, engineering or a related project environment.
  • A recognised third-level qualification in Environmental Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • Recognised professional EHS accreditations or certifications, such as IOSH.
  • Strong knowledge of construction and engineering EHS management.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing country-specific and European EHS regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems and certification processes.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and stakeholder-management capability.
  • Experience supporting or managing EHS teams across complex projects.
  • Strong incident investigation, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience working with EHS performance indicators, metrics and reporting.
  • Good understanding of digital construction and EHS platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT capability.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • EU passport holder.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly between European project locations.
