Job Description

The Office of Public Works (OPW) invites applications for appointment to the position of Craft Carpenter & Joiner in the areas within the responsibility of the Dromahair National Monuments District. The district covers Counties Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon and Longford, with a main depot in Dromahair and sub‑depots in Letterkenny (Co. Donegal), Carrowmore (Co. Sligo), Boyle (Co. Roscommon) and Foxford (Co. Mayo).

Eligibility and Requirements
  • An advanced certificate in the craft of carpentry & joinery (or equivalent Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications). Irish or foreign qualification recognised as equivalent on the Irish NFQ.
  • Evidence of apprenticeship or successful completion of craft exams, with copies submitted with the application.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a craft carpenter & joiner post‑qualification.
  • A full, clean and current driving licence, minimum category B & W, and a current Safepass card (categories 1,2A).
  • If your Irish driving licence is restricted to automatic cars (code 78) or if you hold a UK/NI licence that is no longer valid for driving in Ireland, you must exchange it for an Irish licence before applying.
  • Proof of successful completion of the Safe Pass Course if you do not currently hold a Safe Pass card.
